Just because they didn’t know the names of the ships doesn’t mean they were unfamiliar with the concept of shipping, even back then.
 
I like how this is tagged “out of context” when it’s not really, the dialogue gives pretty much the exact same impression here as it did when read with the entirety of the comic.

This is the gayest non-gay pairing ever.

True… Judging from the amount of kids I hear in online multiplayer… Yeah… Parents don’t care if their kids play violent video-games but they get offended when homosexuality is being presented?

Parents do know that the more they restrict something, the more kids and people in general will just be drawn towards it. Curiosity and all.

Also, I had a hard time believing my friend due to the lack of evidence and him having a tendency to say false things he considers to be fact.

A friend of mine once told me that Lauren wanted to have a gay character in the show, but she was not one of the main characters. I dunno if he is telling the truth or not as he cannot confirm his claim with a legit source.
 
Y’know, it would be nice to see two mares or stallions get together. I’m not asking to anything explicit, but something to support the ‘love and tolerate’ message of this series.

As much as I personally enjoy Rarijack, and all of the little snippets that have been thrown into the comics for Rarijack..  
If the show were to ever have Rarity and Applejack just open up and lesbian kiss in a aired episode, there would be all sorts of backlash from moms upset over their little girls show pushing lesbian ideas on their kids.  
Even though the political climate is supposed to be more gay friendly nowadays, I just don’t think they could get away with pushing the kind of shipping most of us here want to see.  
They could maybe get away with say, Rainbow Dash coming out of the closet in a sensitive and not a in your face sort of way.  
The comics Might be able to get away with it. I don’t know how heavy the IDW pony comics are in parents radars, so they could maybe get away with it.  
If there were to be any gay or lesbian characters, they would be probably have to be background ponies, but thats just me.

I know TwiDash and Twixie are near the top. Rarijack is like #4 most popular (according to number of images posted).

Just remember - the writers and artists of the comics were not aware at the start of the fandom shipping concept. They may be aware now, but they aren’t going to be writing purposely towards it.

What are some of the most popular ships? I know PinkieXRainbow Dash is there. Flutterdash. Rarijack. TwilightXCelestia or Luna.

I think I’m going to buy this comic just for the hilarious facial expressions.

Didn’t Rarijack get a nod in the EqG movie? Just keeping up the tradition.

They are sneaking a lot of stuff passed the radar. In my honest opinion, if they were allowed to have a same gender relationship in the comics and/or show, these two might be the first to pair up.

Yeah this is two panels taken out-of-context, but the comic has by this point thrown in so much UST _{^{(unresolved sexual tension)}} between these two that I’m having a real hard time believin’ it’s all totally unintentional, even though logically it must be.

Rarity looks uncomfortable.

This and the ‘which team do you play for, Rainbow Dash’ quote leads me to think that shipping is alive and well in the EQ universe.
