Maybe, but they were more like honored through time, like Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, Duck Hunt etc. The Sony characters… didn’t exactly make the same impact :/ But I see what you’re getting at.

Eh. He only had the PS1 ones, as far as I’m aware. That’s not an awful lot to put him up as a flagship character, really :/ Hardly Mario or Samus. Then again, Sony really doesn’t have that much in terms of mascots.

I’ve seen VideogameDunkey play that. When you’ve got to dig out Parappa the Rapper and that MidEvil guy, you know you’re grasping at straws :P

Yeah, closest I can think of was “TMNT: Smash-Up” which actually had a few developeders from the SSB series, but ironically caught crap for being a SSB-clone regardless.

Sony also tried their own SSB clone, (with all of “their” characters, or at least ones mostly exclusive to their consoles) but I never played it, so I don’t know if it has a similar simpler play style.

I actually own “Killer Instinct,” and that’s one’s pretty crazy with the button combinations too. A friend of mine had 25-hit combos memorized, so playing KI with him was always very one-sided. I still don’t get how we’re supposed to play those games.

I prefer Smash Bros. where you just press a direction, and a button with it to do different attacks.

lol, yeah, the massive 20-button combos were a bit much. But the three-button ones, or simply different moves with a button and direction? They seemed to make a lot of sense to me. Like in SC game if you wanted an upward “swiping” attack, the combination was pretty much the same for most characters. Same with sweeps and stabs and all that jazz. :P

Never could understand Street Fighter though, THAT was cheat code memory territory.

I guess I’m just the opposite, and I prefer more simple controls. I could never memorize those insane button combos for fighting games like “Up, down, X, R, B, A, diagnally, down, A, forward, back, B to throw a houdoken!” It’s like trying to memorize tons of cheat codes for games.

Heh, I never really button-mashed. I preferred to master the combos and stuff. Hence why I sucked at the classics; not many combos or specials to fall back on. :P

I suck at those kinda games. lol but to be fair, fighting button-masher games are much different from sidescrolling “beat ‘em ups.”

Yeah, I’d love to see Ristar come back.

Well, I loved Tekken and Soul Calibur series, but yeah, I could never get into a groove with the classic ones. Also I remember hearing that about Sonic, and yes I’m pretty sure that’s what eventually went on to be Ristar. I hope that guy makes a comeback one day…

Seems like a small genre, but creative for it’s time.
Funny thing is, Sonic was originally going to be a rabbit, and could grab enemies with his ears, and headbutt ‘em like Ristar. Probably why Ristar was included in “Sonic Mega Collection” as a hidden/unlockable game.

Actually, there are many ways you can beat them, but like your enemies you gatta keep moving & jumping too, not just attacking. I take it, you haven’t really played the “beat ’em up” arcade genre of games. I like ‘em better then fighting games, because they’re more simple, and enemies only take one or a few hits to beat.

Now that you mention it, they do. It’s like they tried to make a platformer like Sonic, then went “wait, if he can’t go fast, and it’s not a gun-based game, what do we do?” and the answer was “projectile limbs”.

Yeah, but I could never figure out the combos, or just how to survive it. There’s punch and kick, but the enemies still whoop you and there’s not really anything you can do to stop em…

Really? They’re not that hard, they’re kinda like the classic “beat ’em up” arcade games, which have much simpler controls compared to the “button masher” fighters like Street Fighter.

Heady, Ristar, Rayman, and Plok seem quite similar in some ways.

Yeah, I remember those ones. Never could get how the combat worked in em though.

Dynamite Headdy’s very similar to Ristar, in that he uses his head in the same way Ristar uses his arms. I’m pretty sure there’ll be a playthrough on youtube or something.

That’s coolies.
I haven’t played “Dynamite Heady” yet, but sense it’s made by Treasure makers of “Gunstar Heroes” it should be good.

I also love the Golden Ax, and Streets of Rage games.

Man, Ristar was great. And Dynamite Headdy.

I have the Steam SEGA Classics collection, which is just great. I’ve always wanted to make sure I have the access to the old Sonics if need be.

Yeah, but I still like Sega games.

In fact, a month back, I got an officially-licensed AtGames portable Sega Genesis that has a bunch of Sega Genesis games on it. (It has every Genesis Sonic game, but Sonic 3 on it.)
The sound isn’t as good as an actual Sega, the rechargeable cord is a USB one, and you can’t save games on it, (except the RPG games) but it’s still nice. It even has “Ristar” (a favorite of mine) on it. Lucky I remember it’s cheat codes you get when you beat the game.

Is it sad I laughed my ass off over that? lol

Funny thing is, the AoStH cartoon was actually what introduced me to Sonic as a kid. (As I was a Super Nintendo kid.) Hilariously, I remember the first I ever saw of said show was the most famous “Sonic Says” bit. “First you say no! Then you get out of there!”
