It made me unfollow the blog, which was otherwise promising and very entertaining. So way to go, artist, you drove off your fans for the sake of climbing aboard some social justice diva’s bandwagon. Feel good?
 
Yes, I realize this was all two years ago. Just reminiscing and making a point about how annoying this kind of soapboxing via fiction is. If a creator wants to deliver a message, they should say it for themselves, or at least write their own new story for it rather than derailing an existing one.

@panzerkampfpony The thing is, you can sometimes convert the radicalised haters, because a lot of the time they’re so whipped up into a frenzy because of misinformation and don’t understand what they’re actually attacking. But the passive-aggressives? Eternally holier-than-thou (just check out old Derpygate metas here and on pbooru)

I’m not sure which is worse, when people demand censorship in a completely serious “you’re not allowed this I demand you get rid of it” way or when they pretend to have a faux friendly “I like fun as much as the next person insert forced attempt at seeming that you like something just as much but yeah you’re still not allowed it as it offends me”.

The blog didnt start Molestia and it wont end with the blog, Molestia isnt one single blog, there is hundreds of people making their own interpretation (most being far far more explicit) then JJs blog.
 
If a tame blog like that gets taken down, a lot more just as innocent will NEED to be taken down by tumblr stuff also regardless if pony or not, they cannot take it out on one blog and ignore every other.

The problem with memes is that they die out when they have been used to the point of over saturation. In this case, most of the art you linked can either be one-time-only instances, where they never followed up on it and continues as is, or fapfic material. Takening down a meme isn’t like ripping up a poster or eliminating a disruptive person from the room. It’s about chuckling about it till it bears the humour content of a farmer’s convention. Already, one could say, the material is dried up now because it’s past it’s prime. Sure you see it mentioned for a laugh, but did you ever wanted to see more? Referencing all the material made in 3 years doesn’t help as the amount created slowed down compared to other, canon characters, like say….Celestia.
 
At the end of it all, it’s merely a joke for the reader. Like most jokes, it will either hit or miss. The less it hits will show the shittyness of the joke and, therefor, will show how bad of a taste it leaves. Much like comedians but not playing to a room of drunken dullards.

@CocoaNut While some people are all about taking down the actual Ask Princess Molestia blog, there are a lot more of them in the Down with Molestia campaign who recognize that Jon’s blog has been moving steadily away from the rapist characterization of his Molestia. There is still sexual harassment there, but he has been moving away from it.
 
Rather, the Down with Molestia campaign is rallying against the Molestia MEME, and through it the acceptance of rape and sexual harassment/abuse if presented in a “funny” or “sexy” way.
 
Think of it like this: Had Celestia been male in the show, and someone had made a rapist/sexual harassment based version of that male Celestia, people would be far more willing to be up in arms about it. Yet because it’s MOLESTIA, IE a rapist/sexually harassing Celestia, a lot of people are accepting of it due to double standards. “Oh, it’s just a woman,” “Women can’t rape, only men can rape” “Who wouldn’t want to be with a woman like that?”, and etc. This is why, whenever cases of teachers having sex with their underage students come up, particularly here in the US, if the teacher is a woman then people are far more willing to forgive her of it. If the student was a boy, and the woman is attractive, some people will even claim that the boy was lucky. On TVTropes, it’s called Double Standard Rape: Female on Male, and I encourage anybody to take a look at it.
 
On the subject of Molestia, technically, even JJ is doing fanart. He didn’t come up with the character. The meme itself started off with this picture >>102416, and just went on from there. At the beginning of the blog and during its first year, it did in fact feature a lot of sexual harassment, sexual abuse and abuse of power and rape by his Molestia, but over the last year and a half/two years now he’s been steadily moving AWAY from that portrayal. She’s still fairly raunchy, no question, but JJ’s Molestia doesn’t force herself on others on a regular basis anymore. She still does occasionally, and that does need to stop.
 
Compare that though to the regular Molestia people draw fanart of:

Of course, that’s just a sample of the different pieces of Molestia art out there not done by JJ. Later on, I may go through the entire JJ Molestia blog to find examples of the times that JJ’s Molestia has in fact raped and sexually assaulted other characters, compared to all the times she’s had CONSENSUAL sex with other characters (there is a difference there).
 
But as you can see from those examples, Molestia as a meme is all about rape and sexual harassment, protecting herself and getting what she wants by abusing her status and power as the (co)ruler of Equestria. THAT is what people in the Down with Molestia group are fighting against, not specifically JJ’s Molestia, and not the non-rape aspects of JJ’s Molestia blog either.

Actually, for several weeks, it was mostly about “cake is making Molestia’s plot fat” jokes.

Honestly, this is the most thoughtful and reasonable DWM post I’ve seen so far. I disagree (I have no issue with the Molestia jokes as long as people accept that it’s an entirely different canon than the show), but this one is actually somewhat reasonable and doesn’t claim that APM is all about rape jokes (which it’s not).
