Wow. I had heard the outro version of that theme before, but never with the lyrics. The harmonies on the vocals are beautiful.

There is a lot more world building in G1’s My Little Pony n Friends compared to G4 FiM, by far (so far).
 
This series had much action, adventure, quests, treasures, places, people, creatures, monsters, and magics, you can make an RPG campaign setting out of it. I have difficulty thinking of another cartoon with as much diversity, except maybe the early 90s’ Gargoyles.
 
FiM has explored pony society and culture more though, although I’d say they have somewhat different attitudes and standards from these ponies, for better and worse.

You should. Cheesy as it was, it’s the only entry in the MLP franchise other than FiM to tell some actual stories.
 
Tales, while superficially entertaining, exhausted its supply of slice-of-life ideas so fast that pretty much every episode involved some sort of bizarre shenanigans that would get the whole cast either committed or convicted IRL.
 
G3 didn’t even have that going for it.

I watched My Little Pony Tales when I was young. I don’t remember if I even cared that it was a girl cartoon or not.

The original series were 11 minute episodes, but despite this, the G1 stories were almost always the equivalent of FIM 1 or 2-parters.
 
They were short because the episodes were part of the ‘My Little Pony n Friends’ show, which always featured a 2nd Hasbro cartoon: either Glo Friends, MoonDreamers, or Potato Head Kids. There was never any reference or connection between them. Other 80s shows had a similar setup, tying in different cartoons with the same intros and credits.
 
This opening here always had the same pony clips, but different ones inbetween depending who was featuring that day. The other opening is longer because it was the ‘ponies only’ version with a different song, without other cartoons’ characters shown throughout.
 
Also I had to add dithering for this one, not sure why, because the colors were really messed up without it.

I feel like I ought to give G1 a watch.
