It’s a spiral from one side but then they just lazily horizontally flipped the assets and never corrected that.
 
So now it’s rings.

Hmm…while, until I have more information, I will assume that this is an animator oversight, it does work well with some ideas that have been bothering me for the last few days; namely, that Unicorn horns Should be ringed, not spiraled, since this is (or, at least I think it is,) the pattern one can observe on goat horns.
