Sometimes i, too, find characters i dislike at first sight. But that’s still my point of view or my personal tastes. Others may like that character and i’m ok with that.
 
If someone tell me a character sucks because “is a Mary Sue”, that means nothing to me. But if that person tell me that character sucks because was made with too much abuse of Pony Creator, making it an alicorn with ALL the powers and atributtes and everything, then we have an actual explanation. If someone believe a character is too bad and don’t even deserve to be explained why, then there is no way i’ll be able to see why that character is that bad until i see it personally. That person may be right about how bad that character is, and is his/her choice if he/she wants to explain it or not. But in the other hand i just cannot agree with someone just because he/she said something like “is a Mary Sue”. Because in many other cases peoples had said that againts characters that ARE good, that are NOT that bad, or simply characters they just don’t like.
 
Also, even if the character is a true Mary Sue, that’s not mean i’ll always agree that’s bad. I may like or dislike such character. I may find the way it was created as cheap and unoriginal, and still may believe thats OK: The person who did that may not be a good artist but i may find the character itself still interesting or not.

That is a good point. The ones who know what they’re doing tend to be cautious about that sort of thing.
 
However, I prefer to be optimistic, and I still say that appearance alone isn’t enough to make a character unsalvageable. Any skilled writers up for a challenge?

That’s my point, an expert would make a canon-looking OC so he could create a professional canon-like backstory for it, Mary Sues are created usually by younger Bronies just because they want one that looks cool so they can quickly think of a cliche’d as all hell emo backstory for it.

Actually, if a good enough writer took a shot at making a story with said character, could they pull off a non-Sue version? After all, that’s pretty much just appearance, not personality or abilities. It would take an expert who really knows what they’re doing, but it might just be possible.

Some bad OCs don’t even deserve the time of day to explain why they’re bad, I mean why should I have to type out a full in-depth list explaining why an allicorn with RD’s mane and tail and every possible customisation option on the Pony Creator is bad?

The term “Mary sue” is too much overused and abused. Is a cheap way to attack characters they just don’t like. Some people can make a good explanation why a character is bad from their point of view and they may be right, but others just say “it’s a Mary sue” and then I know they’re just wrong.

Meh, that phrase is dead. I expect to unironically hear someone call Ralph Wiggum a Mary Sue any day now.

Twilight: Dash, but you don’t know what marry sue even means.

And Twilight in S2 was at her best anyway (well, in most cases)

I know what you mean. I’ve had to deal with quite a few of Mary’s lawsuits myself.
