The wings aren’t big enough to carry the ponies anyway. The only way they can fly in the first place is through magic. :O Real-world physics would ground all pegasi permanently because of the Square-Cube law, so I don’t think 30 additional pounds is going to be a problem.

Luna and Celestia’s “father” is an established fan design for a rule 63 version of Celestia, Prince Solaris. You could argue that because 2snacks is using the character as Luna and Celestia’s father here it might not count strictly as rule 63, but given that most Prince Solaris images are also already tagged with “rule 63” and “princess celestia” tags, it’s worth leaving in.

The armor could be sectioned, it would let the wings move, and it may not be all plate.  
You may have a point on weight but then again we don’t really know what the armor is made of, it could just be decorative and be light weight, to a point that flying with it isn’t a problem.

problem with that  
you couldn’t extend the wings, plus armored wings would make them heavy and impossible to use  
so issue here is, no protection and you can fly, but you have an open vulnerably  
or armored wings and you can’t fly, making it so can’t escape
