Wind Vane (he/him)
Wind Vane is a professor of physics and specializes in teaching aspiring flyers the science behind flight. The courses he teaches and he alike are rigorous and unforgiving. He has never given out a perfect 100%, even on perfectly completed assignments because “there is always room for improvement.” Professor Vane prides himself on being professional, serious, and expecting excellence, and despite his grim attitude, he is surprisingly well-liked by his students- if only because it is hilarious to pick on him. He sports a collection of ties, each gifted to him from coworkers, his students, and his parents. Most of these ties sport ridiculous patterns or phrases, carefully chosen by his students to be as ludicrous as possible. He wears them all, despite his grousing and much to the uproarious delight of his classes.

When Wind Vane was a colt he was deeply interested in flight. His aspirations, however, laid not in pony flight but in the flight of inanimate objects. He earned his cutiemark the day he first constructed a kite- which, naturally, took him several months to do because everything had to be planned and perfect before he could even make his attempt. His mothers, one a schoolteacher and the other a fast-flying stuntmare, were thrilled to discover his interests in books and the sky. He couldn’t relate to their cheery dispositions though. He had a pressing, urgent need to be taken seriously and his silly kite cutiemark was, he was convinced, doing him no favors. So he dived into his books and diagrams and charts, desperate to make a name for himself- a name that would be regarded with respect. Whether he achieved that goal is debatable. After all, he’s certain that every pony that leaves his class is much more capable and understanding of flight mechanics and physics, but wearing a tie that says “NERDS RULE” is not exactly the height of stoicism.
