Considering that she seems to hate her job, why wouldn’t keep the only witness and her sister alive? The more potential heiresses there are to the throne the more likely it will be for her to get away with abdicating.

Celestia does some low- to mid-level trolling (the thing with the tea cups, bringing the girls in to wreck the GGG for the lols), but nothing on Greek god-level.
 
also, it’s explicitly stated at the beginning of the first episode that Celestia tried to reason with Luna, but that she was left with no choice other than to use the Elements of Harmony as her sister had gone insane.

Celestia seems more like a Greek deity then the omni-good judeo-christian model.
 
She’s certainly the best option and keeps everything in line, but she does some really dick stuff pretty often.

look I agree that Celestia is best princess  
but ‘not murdering your helpless sister’ isn’t so much ‘good guy’ behaviour as the bare minimum required for not being considered an utter monster
