Maps like this amuse me, especially if they make no sense.

But they’re also extremely predictable. I’d like to see a map that doesn’t associate Applejack with the south or Twilight with New England. Also, the idea of splitting states between regions never seems to cross anyone’s mind, even though in places like California and Pennsylvania might make sense.

I mainly associate West Virginia with coal mining, though if that was supposed to be a nod to Pinkie’s family then it should probably include Pennsylvania as well. Otherwise, the only reason the region should extend that far north is to include D.C. because of political “parties.”

And if Pinkie supposed to be a “festival” region then Tennessee should also be included because of Memphis (even if that style of music is more of Applejack’s thing)

I can see why Rarity was given California, but the addition of Arizona and New Mexico seem arbitrary, as if the poster felt that more territory was needed but that Seattle and Portland were too Fluttershy-like.

Rarity would be a very good fit for New York since she frequently visits MLP’s stand-in for New York City, and her affinity for high society could also tie in to Princeton, Philadelphia, New Haven, Boston, and Martha’s Vineyard. That would leave Twilight homeless, but perhaps she could be moved to the west coast and given a region encompassing Seattle, Portland, and Northern California.

Agree that Rarity should get Nevada; she might also trade Hawaii for that as I more associate the state with nature than fashion.

Kansas and Nebraska I’d say are better known for their sports presence than nature, if only for college basketball and football.

Why is West Virginia considered a “festival” region state? Seems more either sports or redneck. Only state in that region I feel it fits is Florida, and I’d have included Louisiana with it for the New Orleans scene.

Pennsylvania and Missouri are honestly really tough to put into any region, and I’d have no clue what to do with the Dakotas.

The “Mid-Atlantic” accent is largely a “learned dialect” that absorbed parts of Received Pronunciation for its prestige; it was never even dominant to the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region.

While the American movie industry did originate in the Northeast, it had largely moved to Hollywood by the time the talkies came about. Rarity is a pony that is more of a “social climber” than an establishment elite (she definitely didn’t get her accent from her parents or even teachers!) which fits well into the Hollywood/fashion ethos.

Of course these are all just meant to be broad brushes than can’t capture every nuance, but it’s certainly not supposed to be reducible to accents.
