and for few people who asked, a slightly more detailed description:
History:
Amber Drop is a light yellow unicorn mare with red mane and tail. Her deep green eyes and green tint of her magic often cause her trouble in Ponyville since after the Changeling invasion those traits are a red flag for many ponies.
Amber was born in Manehattan to a family of rich merchants. She’s the oldest sibling, she has a younger brother. She’s the only unicorn in the family, both of her parents and her brother are earth ponies. This caused her parents to have huge ambitions for their daughter, but unfortunately nothing good came out of them. Amber had a rich, but short childhood. With her parents always busy she was raised by servants and as soon as he was old enough they sent her to a boarding school for unicorns. There she discovered that for a unicorn her magical talent is pretty lousy, she had problems with the most basic levitation.
Cutie mark
Amber was the first one in her class to get her cutie mark, but for a long time she wasn’t aware what it actually represents. A lot of ponies teased her about it. Her cutie mark is a broken mask – a symbol that other students laughed at calling it the talent to not have any talent. It was, in a way, a truth, Amber had a terrible stage fright and she hated to attract attention. As the time went on her fear of being ridiculed and her constant problems with magic pushed her further and further away from other ponies her age, which in turn caused her to be called a weird loner, which resulted in even more teasing.
Her real talent and at the same time her curse is the ability to guess real intentions and detect lies. She could guess when other ponies lie and what they are trying to hide. That ability started to manifest itself very early, even before she went to school. Since her parents never spent too much time with her and she spent most of time with her very formal servants, she had no idea that other ponies lie and hide the truth from others and that it might be for the better. It caused her a lot of trouble when she was growing up. Things weren’t any better in school, other ponies thought she’s weird and didn’t want to be friends with her and those few that she managed to befriend she unwillingly hurt or pushed away when she accidentally revealed their secrets. Because of her loneliness she started reading books, where she finally realized that her gift is unique to herself and indeed it is her special talent. With that obvious yer completely new knowledge she tried to salvage what reminded of her social life, making few friends and even getting a coltfriend (a rather short relationship since he was unable to hide the fact that he was in it because he thought he’ll get between her hind legs).
She was doing pretty poorly in school. As it was a school for unicorns, most of the subjects were somehow connected with magic. She was doing pretty well with other subjects, although those were not as important. Despite her problems she managed to graduate and returned home. Her parents weren’t really satisfied with her grades, or the fact that she didn’t want to continue her studies. After one particularly long and loud conversation with them she packed her things and got on the earliest train to visit her favorite cousin in Ponyville – Applejack.
She met Applejack when as a little Filly she was visiting her aunt and uncle in Manehattan – the Orange family is a link between Amber’s family and AJ’s.
Since then Amber has lived in a small apartment in Ponyville, trying to find her place in the small quiet town.
Character and personality:
Amber Drop is a very withdrawn and mistrusting pony, who got hurt a lot in the past. Because of this she has problems making new friends and opening to them. In some situations she can get outright hostile towards ponies who try too hard to get to know her. She wants to have friends, she knows she’s lonely and she hates it, but she has serious problems breaking through her shyness and mistrust. Her talents allow her to guess if a pony she’s talking to is telling the truth or what his real intentions are. She rarely admits to it however and often uses that to her advantage. She learned to distinguish between the things a pony wanted to communicate to her and things she managed to guess on her own, and how to hide the fact that she knows. She tries to be a good pony. She despises her family for all the corruption, lies and false atmosphere of kindness she could see right through when she was a little filly. She didn’t understand it then, now when she does it fills her with disgust and fear that she might become just like them. However it’s not easy for her to control her powers and more often than not she learns much more about a pony than she supposes to and sometimes she uses that to her advantage.
She’s also rather lazy, she’ll do anything not to do what others expect her to do, especially if it is manual labor.
Magic is another difficult subject. Although she improved her magical capacity over the years in school she still very weak. Because of that she’s unable to use many spells she learned over the years. However she learned that even her weak magic can be used in combination of clever contraptions she learned to design in one of less popular classes (she was in fact one of the only two students taking them, and the other one was there because of a lost bet).
