your current filter.Some people probably don’t understand that a question can sometimes be asked purely out of interest. For them, any mention of skin color is immediately a hint of a political agenda or something like that.
I’m wondering how the artist got exactly this kind of vision. And I’m interested because my vision of the situation is different.

The points about Rarity and Rainbow, in principle, have a place to be.
Because simply why not? That’s the artist’s interpretation. I see no reason why any humanized MLP character should or should not represent a certain race or ethnicity.

But other than the reasoning that it looks great:
-Dark twi has always been the most common interpretation of her and her official eqg concept art had her dark.
-pinkie pie is moderately black coded
-rds official anime fig is dark skinned, plus a very tanned dash is a common look bc no sun hat.
-dark skin contrasts well against her white coat which is usually turned into clothes, plus purple is one of the best complements to brown
