I mean if you can ship Rainbow Dash X Lightning Dust, and Zephyr Breeze X Rainbow Dash (both of which has one or more pony hating the other), I don’t think this is entirely out of the realm of possibility. Though I do agree with OP.

I’ve just always found that often times I’m uninterested since the character(s) I like is/are practically gone more often than not.

Oh they are aware, some of the reasons is because of how cute the two of you look when together. Most of the writers even take the time to work on those issues that make the two of you hate one another.

this is true of literally all ships, including canon ones. Yes, the only thing that distinguishes canon couples from fan ones is that they were invented by the original author and that’s all. I generally think it’s worth keeping silent about real life. there are in relationships many so different people that you can lose faith in humanity.

and returning to the plots, a lot of romance (large, made by professionals, not anonymous) exploits precisely the trope of the fact that the characters are different, are at odds and do not get along. because it adds tension, and therefore interest, to a vanilla love story. this is why the tsundere archetype is popular. this is why people ship enemies and rivals. because this is vanilla romance into which the factor of relationship toxicity has been added. Hey God, people, it’s like your first time in the world of writing.

Why do they ship Sunset and Adagio? literally because they are enemies. fanfiction fans haven’t forgotten that they hate each other, that’s literally the reason why they’re shipped in the first place.
and it works like that in all fandoms. in any fandom where there are characters who are enemies/rivals, they will be shipped. fuck, I know a popular pairing whose characters didn’t even interact in canon. not at all. they saw each other once at one mass event, and that’s it. if anything connects them, it is another character, in relation to whom they were both enemies. only for that third character in the plot, everyone was an enemy, they didn’t stand out here. this is an example of a literal ship that came out of nothing.

exactly. this is the main reason why most fanfics are mediocre. Unlike film professionals, independent anonymous authors for the most part are not able to make the convergence of characters in such circumstances as high-quality and believable, which is why they suffer from problems of OOC, abrupt changes in relationships (when hatred turns into love almost out of the blue) and excesses.

I had to interject that having some similarities doesn’t equal being compatible, not just in shipping but also virtually any kind of possitive interaction, let alone shipping. You’d require one hell of a writing to make it remotely plausible.

can you point out where I said about complete character changes? Correcting basic negative qualities is, as smart people say, “character development.” especially the admission of mistakes and guilt, and the willingness to take responsibility. which is roughly what happened to Sunset Shimer and Starlight Glimmer. Have they changed completely as characters by becoming kind? no, but they have lost the basic traits that made them evil. oh god, almost all fanfics shipping Sunset and Adagio focus on how similar these two are, and almost always the main motive for Sunset to help Adagio is that Sunset sees himself in her. this is literally the base of this ship

To be fair it can be ocasionally plausible, but you’d need one hell of an effort to make it work while somehow trying to successfully explain why it works and make a plausible case where they can actually at least tolerate each other.

Is not like Batman and Catwoman who clearly don’t hate each other despite being in opposites of the law, but not all enemies are capable of bury the hatchet so at least you need one hell of a writing to do so…or just from the get go stablish is not supposed to be serious and play with the giggles. XD

Then again fanfiction has no rules so is not like one should take it too seriously.

ahem-ahem, fanfiction authors are well aware of this, which is why almost all fanfiction revolves around reconciling the relationship between Adagio and Sunset, as well as correcting Adagio’s most striking negative character traits. that is, the plot of most fan fiction leads to those conditions when relationships will be possible. I know what I’m saying, I’ve read fanfiction from most of those who speak negatively about it. Another question is the author’s skill, and the fact that the cart is often pulled ahead of the mare, which is why the author first makes the characters love, and only therefore learn to interact with each other and overcome the problems of their relationships.

When you just are up the ride there it goes but the moment you turn the brain on you notice something out of place when you compare it with canon.
But the good thing is, we can at least day people are creative.

People would ship the left rail and right rail of train tracks because they are always seen together, and ignore that they never meet.

Seems to work for the writers.

Fanfic writers are weird like that. It gets to the point where I’m not even sure they watch the show at all (and I’m not just talking about the weird pairings, either).
