Description

For a long time I’ve been wanting to draw Rainbow Dash as Angus McFife of Gloryhammer. But then some idiot decided to fire the very iconic lead singer of the band (Thomas Winkler, who was Angus McFife for three albums) and he went off to form his own band. “Glory left my hammer” indeed.
One could make the argument that the costume itself is still the character, regardless of whoever is wearing it. But when it comes to a singer it is not the costume: it is the voice. When they lost the voice of Thomas Winkler, they lost Angus McFife. The new guy is good, but to my ears he will never be the legendary space hero of dundee who sacrificed himself in the volcanic fire and was reborn in the realm of martyrs.
Or maybe I just need to go touch some grass. Whatever. Rainbow Dash still looks good in Angus McSix’s gold armor with Sixcaliber.

Hello, unexpected crossover.
I’ve been a fan of Gloryhammer since I heard about them from Totalbiscuit. These guys making intentionally cheesy power metal and having fun with it are better to my ears than some power metal bands that take themselves seriously. They’re so over the top and fun to listen to. I too was put off when they fired Thomas Winkler for unexplained reasons and didn’t like Return to the Kingdom of Fife the first time I listened to it. Subsequent listens changed my mind. It may not be my favorite Gloryhammer album, but it’s good. Sozos Michael’s voice isn’t as dramatic and iconic as Thomas Winkler’s, but he’s all right. I’m interested to see where the band goes from here, since earth is apparently destroyed for real this time.
Angus McSix and the Sword of Power is awesome too. If Winkler and Gloryhammer parting ways means we get double the great albums, it’s hard for me to complain.
