Absolutely. I’m 19 and since I started using a mobility aid a few months ago, I’ve gotten negative comments from both professors and family. The #1 thing I hear is “you’re too young for that” and the second is “you don’t really need that.” Family members are suddenly scrambling to treat my pain because I’m now visibly disabled. Before I used an aid, I was told that it was my fault I was disabled and discouraged from seeing a doctor. People absolutely are awful about young folks using mobility aids or being disabled, and using an aid is seen as worse than being disabled and not using one, even though they make life SO much easier.
Anyways, I appreciate the sentiment here. Mobility aids can be so helpful for anyone at any age, and if it helps, you should absolutely use one. Don’t let anybody shame you for it.
