I was just telling you why she didn’t get more development and how the writers threw her away right after too. There’s a difference between “this show is being funded to produce toy sales so we’ll make it well” and “we don’t care about or even planned for this character, but we need to put her in SOLELY because she will make a good toy.” No one’s ever been under the delusion that the show isn’t a huge advertisement like G.I Joe or Barbie. But there are things in the show that were clearly not planned out by the WRITERS for the sake of making a nice story, but were added in to make/promote a good toy. Which is why those things or characters don’t get as much development as they would otherwise receive.

There’s a difference between something made to increase engagement with the brand as a whole. And something made to promote a single specific product with little to no other value or purpose.

So when someone says “x” only exists for toys, that’s what they’re saying. They’re not saying the show has somehow magically defied capitalism and was made out of the kindness and passion of the creators; they’re saying “x” was made to promote a specific product otherwise irrelevant to the show.

Uh, the show has been toy-shilling schlock since before day 1. Good toy-shilling schlock mind you, but still toy-shilling schlock. Faust herself said they told her to change some of her designs for toy reasons, which she did, so I’ve never gotten this conceit that “‘x’ only exists because “muh toys”!”

Alas Cadance and everything associated with her was basically popped into existence for the sole purpose of toy sales and then put out of sight, out of mind. The fans can’t ask where Cadance is or what she’s doing if she’s 200 miles that way in the middle of a barren tundra.

Fo sho! Like I wish both got a lot more development than they ultimately did.

Lmao, though the problem with the Crystal Empire was that it really didn’t get that much development when all was said and done. I mean, you could make a serious argument that it got as much development as the Kirin village, despite the latter only appearing in one episode toward the tail-end of the show.

Hey, the whole “Solar Empire vs. New Lunar Republic” thing is fun. But as for Cadance having her own real kingdom that’s canon to the show, yeah; you’re talking sense. She’s got the Crystal Empire to run, and frankly, I would’ve mentioned that myself.
