I suspect that it’s only an in-game thing. The games seem to have its own continuity compared to the main stuff (Earth ponies already have magic IN Maretime Bay Day, Hitch already talks to animals in Maretime Bay Day, Sprout is more than an over-glorified cameo, that sort of thing–)
