That’s just it: we the audience don’t know what an “alicorn” is. Rarity and Pinkie seem to know they are, and I’m sincerely hoping that they (Rarity and Pinkie), or any other character for that matter, share with us what they know about “alicorns”
 
(Mainly because I’m sick of all these arguments surrounding “alicorns”)
