He really has never experienced love before. Griffinstone isn’t known for its romantic culture, after all. I would think he wouldn’t have experienced love until he went to Twilight’s School of Friendship. So knowing that, this drawing makes sense.

I would say he’s more surprised than confused. Knowing Silverstream, this hug certainly came out of nowhere, similar to Pinkie’s hugs.
