King Sky Eventide - Ruler of Equestria
I’ve long had this idea for Celestia and Luna’s parents because despite the show and the creator saying that their parents do not outrank them; it just doesn’t make sense how can two foals develop into Alicorns with magic so powerful it can lift and raise the sun/moon something that the show states took a group of several unicorns . This was stated in the episode “Hearth’s Warming Eve” that before Celestia and Luna rose the sun and moon, a team of Unicorns did so. So I developed this character along with their mother, and created a whole AU of sorts that better explains the sisters and alicorns in general. While also providing a lot more sense for celestia and lunas characteristics!!
I know there is comics and other material surrounding these characters that emphasise the fact that Luna and Celestia are like a millennia old but think of this timeline and AU as a seperate from that.
These were other names I considered for him before landing on Sky Eventide; Azure Comet, Fallen Star, Winter Solstice, Orion, Hypnos.
I decided on Sky Eventide because I wanted his name to be space related but not directly like comet or star I wanted it more to be about the phases of the day and came across Eventide and thought it sounded so nice! I chose Sky reluctantly because it was similar to my own actual name which is a bit weird for me but I thought it suited him as he looks like the night sky. Much like Luna looks like the night and Celestia has similarities to a sun, you could guess it runs in the family!☀️🌙🌈
King Sky Eventide
Nickname: Sky, Eve by his wife, Your Majesty, Baby Blue by his mother.
Special Talent: Night terrors, knowledge of constellations and magic.
Backstory:
When he was first conceived his parents were thoroughly convinced he was a girl, hence his name is more feminine but they stuck with it anyway cause it suited him. Parents were astronomers and who were very into the stars, both were strong magic users. His mother, North Star was one of the unicorns who helped raise/lower the moon and sun before their kids. His father Blue Moon was more into planets and was a Pegasus who enjoyed the night and stargazing on the clouds.
From a young age he showed promise in magic and wanted to be like his mother, a unicorn part of the Lofts, which is the group that raises/lowers the moon and sun. He got his “cutie mark” from going into the dream realm and giving his father a night terror that led him to change a major decision. Unlike his future daughter and wife, Sky cannot give good dreams only nightmares. At first when he discovered this ability he was horrified and vowed to never use it. But with the help of his friend and mentors he realised that he could ground people in reality and make them realise their dreams was too ambitious without logical decisions. So instead of terrorising people he reasoned their dreams with them in the dream realm. However villainous people or those who have dreams with bad intentions do get constant nightmares and he is at peace with that. But this leads to many people to fear him.
Sombra was a childhood friend, since his mother was a crystal pony and a very high ranking mage he lived there for some time becoming close with Sombra. Sombra’s story is that he was a noble child who didn’t get a whole lot of love from his parents which is kinda the whole thing about the empire so he was basically raised the complete opposite, but his status and family relation meant he was a candidate for the throne. His Aunt, Hearts Desire, was the current ruler of the empire and she was training her nephew to be the ruler little did they both know she would have Amore and he would get replaced.
Both Sky and Sombra shared similarities such as behaving no siblings and strong magic abilities, and so they hit it off. They were very much a bromance and would go so far as to say Sombra had deep feelings for Sky, as a crystal pony this journey of love was part of him becoming the crowned prince. However Sky started going to gifted unicorns school held by Starswirl and they grew distant. This is where Sky met Dawn.
Dawn Daydream was also gifted and was at the school to learn, but Sky thought she was the most annoying and kindest person he had ever met. Think of Sky as Kyoya and Dawn as Tamaki (from OHSHC). Sky learned how excitable and hopeful Dawn was and she quickly earned the nickname Dreamer. Unlike his powers Dawn entered a dream world full of hope, she gave the nicest daydreams to people having bad days however she struggled to enter the dream realm at night to give good dreams.
They eventually developed their respective powers and evolve their special talents and earn their wings through many hardships. Because of the harmony and obvious connection they have they hang out a lot and eventually fall in love. However Sombra was very attached to Sky and he felt Dawn was interfering on that relationships and when he found out he was dating her he flew into a rage. Thus his heart darkened and he silently vowed for revenge.
Star swirl, the Cosmic Council and the Lofts name them king and queen of equestria at their first summer moon festival, in which Dawn lowers the sun and Sky raises the moon, this is a not an easy feat for them and they do not do it regularly. Only on special occasions when will their raise them respectively but the Lofts continue to do it until Celestia and Luna.
They also marry having the moon and sun both in the sky making it a glorious sunset that is raved about for centuries. Sombra does crash the party and tries his best to convince Sky that Dawn is not his special somepony and that it’s not true love. When Sky tells him it is because he has never felt
so complete he gets mad and turns to targeting Dawn. He tells her that Sky is evil and will betray her, but she dismisses him and fully trust her husband 100%, no doubts here!
A month after the wedding, Sombra formally sent him a duel for his crown and for his love, this infuriated Sky who just found out that morning that Dawn was pregnant. He accepted it and totally humiliated Sombra in front of the empire, Sombra leaves vowing he will return as something else than a mere second. Sky is devastated for he cares a lot for his friend but just does not reciprocate.
Dawn and Sky welcome Celestia into their home, Celestia takes her appearance from her mother except her eyes, while her more logical, mature side comes from her dad. They call her Tia for short and as she grows she shows a lot of promise as a magic user so her parents ask Starswirl to tutor her. Celestia’s adventurous side and love for the outdoors comes from her mother as well as her soothing aura.
A few years pass and they have Luna! Luna is a lot like her father, serious and logical, but her curiosity comes directly from her mother! Her manner of speech is exactly the same as her father, his parents were very traditional so he speaks in old English and Luna picks it up!
Luna was only a few days old when Sombra attacked their castle, and Sky was having none of it! His wife, child and infant were being attacked and he saw red!! He banished Sombra with a curse of the heart which ended his terrible reign of fear but not before cursing the crystal empire to vanish. They continued living in relative harmony aiding their children in discovering their magical abilities and eventually discovering their talents.
With Starswirl mentoring Celestia and Luna, and their abilties the raise/lower the moon and sun by themselves, their parents decided to let them take over as rulers of Equestria.
However they still shares their opinions and advice when needed and will always step in when their daughters want a break or need an extra horn or two!
Then nightmare moon appeared….
