Except the movie doesn’t give us:
1-Any likable characters.
2-A sense of hope, a sense that things will eventually get better and/or that what Batman does makes a difference.
Even the Nolan movies, as dark as they got, still had likable characters and a sense of hope. I mean, at the very end, Bruce retires to an island, satisfied that his work is done and he made a meaningful difference in Gotham.
Ditto the DC Animated Universe Batman. Remember when he stayed with Ace until she died, making her feel better in her final hours?
This movie is too bleak to have moments like that. Batman is supposed to be dark, but this movie overdoes it.
