Ah, yes, interesting. In a sense, Season 6-On Starlight retains her backstory, but not her character traits. She’s basically Hawkeye Bourne, a new guy with the memories of the original imprinted or some shite. <3<

That’s completely backwords. So if they don’t try to tell a well written
redeption story it’s bad writing (obviously), but if they try very hard to make a well written redemption story it’s also bad writing?

That’s counterintuitive. The second they start trying “too hard” to redeem her enough for it to be “badly written”, they’re not trying hard enough. Among many other things, a good story needs balance, someting Sunset had and Starlight was completely without. You can’t expect a saint and sinner to be treated the opposite within one day (episode). The reason people were sold on Sunset in Rainbow rocks wasn’t because they tried too hard for her, it’s because they tried so well IT WORKED.

And it isn’t just in the way of treatment of others. The way she exploded at Human Trixie when she didn’t have time for her shit in Rainbow Rocks, the way she confronted the Dazzlings in the hall, the way she exploded at Human Twilight for putting people at risk with her device, always goal oriented, outspoken, in charge personality….Sunset never stopped being the Sunset Shimmer that was once the alpha bitch of school. She simply has grown so much beyond the old alpha bitch; because of the trauma, no free passes at school, her kind and open minded acquaintances that became her closest friends…she simply grew as a person, the old sunset never disappeared completely.

And Sunset was never a sass master, she was young, smart and hateful, the latter of which was a vent for her ambitions and a guard against her doubts, which were more apparent in early high school as revealed in eg4 by Flash.

Starlight is the exact opposite of effort. She’s instantly trusted, no transition. Her personality went from a charismatic, machevelian mature adult cult leader, to a younger personality with no strong ambitions or motivations to speak of. Almost no remnants of her personality exist at all, the little remaining lies in her absent minded habits that don’t burden her at all, until she royally screws up. Unlike Sunset, her personality doesn’t reflect her old habits. And her rigid, stilted and stiff dialogue and personality isn’t acknowledged by the others like they portrated swi-twi’s awkwardness with conversation, it’s simply an artifact of her lack of character. If it was intentional, it would of been acknowledged.

I think that’s kinda my problem with Sunset actually. (Not trying to hate on her, nor Glimmer personally, I kinda have mixed feelings on both characters. Some things I like about ‘em, some things I don’t, and I’ll leave it at that) In “Rainbow Rocks” while I was glad Sunset had reprocussions for her past misdeeds, (which kinda helped develop her heel-face turn) I felt they kinda overplayed the whole “earning pity from the viewer” on Sunset at times to the point it felt like they were trying to hard to make us feel sorry for her. But it seemed to of worked too well as fans seem to like her alot better now after her woobie-fication, to the point some think she’s flawless, and never did anything wrong. I think Sunset has kinda the opposite problems of Glimmer in that regard.

I think I’d like to see Sunset’s flaws, or sass occasionally pop up more, (like when she lost her temper with Glasses Twilight) just so she has some hints of her original self, rather then being a completely different character. One thing I prefer about Glimmer is, her rigid personality flaws, and control-issues occasionally still pop-up, so unlike Sunset, she still feels somewhat like the original character, only not “evil” anymore.

Yeah, big part of what made me hate her all through season 7 is that her entire character was “Oh, I feel so awful for enslaving everyone in that town and I was such a bad guy”, completely forgetting that the Town incident was, at best and probably what they went for, well-intended extremist, and totally seem to forget that in The Cutie Remark she did WORSE and had no remorse in creating all those timelines where everyone suffers, yet ends up a happy mare in the end.
If it wasn’t for Season 7 actually focusing on develop her as a character beyond “Oh I did this, I was so evil” and trying to earn pity, I would still hate her for “The Cutie Remark.”

This is why we read sentences instead of skim…

“Most mlp fans that hate her are less hung up on her old actions…”

Reading is important.

I am not presuming that most mlp fans hate her, but I can say with reasonable certainty that overall fandom-wise, people’s inclination towards her is far more negative then most mlp characters. The same way I can say with reasonable certainty that her legacy of higher then normal dislike is hardly based on her villainy, but her character after she “reformed”.

“Obviously the final decision for forgiving Starlight was Twilight ball. If the remane5 would have seen the changes timelines Starlight did, Twilight could have to consider another opinions.”

That just makes Starlight’s presence even MORE artificial. If its only possible because only Twilight witnessed the disasters among the Mane 6, and according to Pinkie, the Mane 6 also keep it a secret that Starlight was criminal cult leader.

“If Twilight forgot Discord betrayal, whose consequences were palpable by all Real Equestria, Why not Starlight??”

I’m not saying Discord’s reformation was done perfectly, but comparing his and Starlight is like comparing a small kitchen fire to a house burning down. For the longest time he is treated with disgust whenever he appears even before he does anything, the exact opposite of Starlight. And with Discord, he’s an eons old agent of chaos, him going from fiend to chaotic neutral plus courteous is as big an improvement as we can expect. And Celestia actually showed how she karma houdini’d Discord after the Tirek incident by accepting flowers in front of everybody.

“
The main trouble is Twilight “easy amnesties” to the villains and lack contrition of them towards the saviors.”

Agreed with the last point, especially since with Starlight what we get is a massive lack of emotionally contribution, making it very hard to be interested in her.

I have a lot of doubts when you wrote “Most mlp fans” Yes, too many people hate her, but there is a high number of people whe loved her.

Obviously the final decision for forgiving Starlight was Twilight ball. If the remane5 would have seen the changes timelines Starlight did, Twilight could have to consider another opinions.

That was a trick half-truth dude. The outfit was neither inaccurate nor accurate.

Starlight isn’t a bit like Silver in the karma department. She’s all the mistakes Silver is with only 5% of consequences, 5% of the extra effort to change, and 10x the rewards. Yes, they’re both terrible at being themselves and terrible at being good guys (at first for Silver), but the comparison ends there.

Most mlp fans that hate her are less hung up on her old actions, others have done worse more intentionally, and more upset about how she’s almost completely separated from her old self in terms of actions and motivations(beyond the idea of having to do Twilight’s lessons while completely missing the point, she doesn’t even have any character motivations), yet the show treats her like she’s the greatest thing ever and Equestria’s most deserving karma houdini.

Its hard to relate to a character on a conquest of revenge to wake up the next episode everybody trusting you and hugging you.

And…honestly? I think we would be able to tolerate Starlight five times more if her dialogue with anybody but Trixie wasn’t so stilted and dispassionate. Her dialogue once reformed is unbelievably boring, and that can go a long way in enhancing the faults that are already there.

Before his heel-face-turn perhaps…
Though, same could be said about Glimmer before she became good too. (Heck, she was almost willing to risk the “Ash Lands” timeline happening even after Twi’ showed her it, just to “get even” with Twi’. Some fans STILL have trouble forgiving how she acted there.)

In fact, Silver actually does learn his lesson, and becomes better in the comic canon especially. In the end, both characters were A-holes, but at least they’re trying to be better.
CronoM

Let me see if I remember…

Ain’t Silver that unempathetic time travel guy that seems to want to be a hero but keeps on getting punched or kicked in the face because he’s an insensitive person that refuses to learn, saying the worst possible things at the worst possible times and never learning?

….This outfit is not INaccurate.
