Sprout’s not really a good deputy. I believe the only reason he became deputy is because Hitch felt sorry for him. At the start of the movie, Sprout declares he wants to be sheriff when he grows up. That was his dream. But Hitch became sheriff instead of Sprout. So there’s no way Hitch did not feel bad about that.
The problem here is Sprout keeps wanting to be something he’s not good at. Its like Troubleshoes’s case. He has to find out what his real talents are (or stop ignoring his talents if he already knows them) and work to grow in that direction.
