Seeing this reminds me of the time I rolled a NAT1 four times in a row in my second ever session playing D&D. I was playing a half-orc barbarian and we were doing a part of our campaign where all of us decided on stealthing our way through an enemy camp. We were doing a semi-modern Victorian style setting, so we had rifles and notably grenades, in addition to magic. So I’m doing a roll for stealth (which my character is not optimized for) and I get a NAT1. The pin on the grenade is snagged on something and it goes live. I make a dex roll to try and throw it away, I roll another one and my character lets go too late and throws it to the ground. I make another dex roll to try and kick it away, roll another one and miss the thing entirely and fall on my ass. Finally, I make a constitution throw as I go to take cover and get my last one, get blown across the camp and right into the middle of a bunch of soldiers. Thankfully, our DM took pity on me (he’s the type that actively goes out of his way to make sure to keep us in the game), so I caught them by surprise. We all came out of it just fine, but I’ve been a magnet for low rolls since we started, this was just a particularly bad bout of luck.
In case you’re wondering, that’s a 1-in-160000 chance and I use this as an example when teaching probability now.
Still have a grand time though, we all were laughing our butts off, though I looked like the kid from that microwave ramen meme.
