Um…Flight is definitely magic, and always has been since G4. Sure, the basic flight mechanics isn’t magic, but realistically the wings that Pegasi have should not be able to hold up an entire horse, regardless of size. The only reason they could fly at all was because magic gave their wings more lift than they would have otherwise.
So I don’t know why simple physics would bug you this much. If anything G5 accurately shows how Pegasi wouldn’t be able to fly without the aid of magic.

Zephyr Heights, as shown by the abandoned way station’s visit Maretime Bay and Bridlewood posters, existed well before the riff between ponies that caused magic to disappear.
Mirror Star

For all we Cloudsdale was long gone before that could even be considered; that or other flying beings that don’t run on the same level of magic as pegasus ponies do, like griffins, changelings, and hippogriffs, are occupying it.

This is true. Honestly, the fact that the Pegasi solved many core flight mechanics that we use in the real world to understand how to create aircraft, it makes me wonder if the Pegasi were trying to figure out how to create a turbine or jet pack that would enable them to fly again (since they already have the wings, meaning all they need is the source of propulsion to achieve flight). Obviously with magic restored this is no longer needed, but it does make me curious about what they were planning on doing with their studies on wing design, air speed velocity, and lift.

Their wings still have surface area though.
We saw Zipp hovering above a turbine generating upward airflow & gliding back down in the old airship terminal, so their wings hypothetically could have arrested their fall enough to at least allowed them to fall with style. ^^

Yes. Next question?
Oh don’t forget. All the floating buildings and everyone in them also fell to destruction. Remember Bespin? Turn off the anti gravity engine and see how long that lasts.

Considering the fact that the Pegasus city of Zephyr Heights was on a solid surface instead of being in the clouds as Cloudsdale was, I would say…maybe? All I know is that Pegasi no longer could ride on clouds as G4 Pegasi could, and it is implied that Cloudsdale did collapse after the magic disappeared. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Pegasi living in Cloudsdale all died, only that they could no longer reach their former city and therefore had to relocate to a new one (which ended up being Zephyr Heights).
