A serum is injected into the cocoon, beginning a process where the subject is transformed into a new changeling drone. This process is comparatively shorter than the love extraction process, with the shortest recorded conversion taking 18 hours and the longest just 72 hours. Whilst the subject retains their own unique identity and some semblance of free will, they become biologically unable to resist a command from their Queen, so the soon-to-be drone will function as needed in the perfectly synchronised hive system.
