In alot of Japanese games, (especially Nintendo ones) they tend to make the hero a “silent protagonist.” So it probably would look odd for every other character to talk, exept Link. (Like in the cinama scenes of “Super Mario Sunshine.” I always felt that game was kinda underrated personally. Squirting stuff was actually surprisingly fun.)

They did have voice acting in the Phillips CD-I Zelda games, (which weren’t made by Nintendo at all, and aren’t considered “canon” by either Nintendo, or fans) but the less said about those games, the better.
“Oh boy! I can’t wait to bomb some Dodongos!”

…Considering that, maybe Link IS better off as a “silent protagonist.” They tried to give Samus a personality in “Metroid: Other M,” but that backfired, and upset alot of Metroid fans. So there might be backlash to giving silent characters voices, and such.

I prefer voiceless games. Cheaper, faster to make, and you don’t have to worry about someone cocking up their performance and there not being enough time to fix it.

Of course, games like LA Noire wouldn’t work without voices, so there’s a time and a place…

Y’know, some people criticized “Twilight Princess” & “Skyward Sword,” just because there wasn’t any voice acting in it. (Aside from vocal sound effects/grunts.)
But… considering all the people always complaining about the Sonic games’ voices, as well as the voices in other games, and such, maybe “Legend of Zelda” is better off with just text dialogue. (It also seems to be kinda a “tradition” in the series.)
