You ask Dawn Break if you can attack both tendrils with one swing of your longsword.
 
Dawn Break: “You can try, but you’ll get a damage penalty if you—”
 
You roll a twenty.
 
Dawn Break: “And nevermind…”
 
Blood Edge swings his longsword with such might that he performs a spin attack, spiraling upward, and slashing both tendrils twice for a total of four damage each. The left tendril is defeated, and turns to dust.
 
Before the last tendril can react, Tailkicker finishes it off with one last swing of her shortsword. It takes one damage, and turns to dust, leaving behind four orbs of magic.
 
Dawn Break: “You have defeated the three black tendrils. Everypony gains six experience points. Congratulations, Blood Edge and Tailkicker, you are now level five.
 
Blood Edge, your maximum health increases to seven, your maximum magic increases to seven, and you learn the spell Fellblade, which increases the cost of Maniuplation to one magic point per turn, but causes manipulated objects to negate defences, until you run out of magic.
 
Tailkicker, your maximum health increases to fourteen, your maximum magic increases to seven, and you learn the spell Lightning Bolt, which uses four magic points to fire a ranged attack that deals five damage, and stuns your target for one turn.”
