I’m just going to repost my opinion on the Phone from Twitter. The phone is fine. Its many years after FIM so it makes perfect sense their tech would evolve. Plus Twilight had been to the human world and they had them so it makes even more sense she would likely push for the development of something similar.
Hmm If I remember correctly a phone was shown in Rarity’s song back in “Rarity takes Manehattan” so ponies advancing to smartphones in the distant future isn’t too surprising. So i guess all the writers have to do is have some kind of balance between the Magic & technology in G5.

thank god i’m not the only person in the entire community who doesn’t mind the phones.
as long as they aren’t a major part of it then i don’t care.
I would wager most (of a certain kind of) people are born finding pre-industrial revolution ways of life more aesthetically appealing (probably because we evolved for much much much longer in those environments) vs post industrial revolution ways of life and my guess is this effect gets stronger the closer you are to the present time so when you introduce things like smartphones or laptops or whatever this can be a turn off, especially when you contrast this with anthropomorphic horse creatures. I always found the more modern technological elements of Equestria lack a sort of coziness and familiarity.
I gotta admit I like Pipp better. She definitely looks cuter than her sister and that hair doesn’t help.
About the phone though, I don’t really mind. It is at the end of the day inevitable and it doesn’t really give me that feeling of “disconnection from a fantasy world”. It’s the same with Pokemon for me. Yeah they put smartphones in the anime and the game but for some reason it still feels like a fantastical world I dream of living in. As long as these adorable fantastical creatures are the main focus, a few phones won’t bother me in any way.

I guess. But on the other hand i get they cant do a carbon copy of G4 and that they perceive their target to be the generation born with a phone in their hands
What i’m saying is we’re finally seeing it, Lauren Faust and G4 gigantic shadow looming over the franchise and G5, the proverbial hard act to follow
We haven’t been using smart phones for very long. Like it’s being generous to say we’ve only been using them for 20 years.
So what I’m saying is less that it’s dated (i suppose it’s poor wording on my part) and more that it’s very modern. And it puts a terrible taste in my mouth.
also yeah if you had read the end of what I said, i said I’m not trying to get anybody to hate it, in fact i don’t want people to.

Seriously, Zipp Storm looks absolutely badass with that color scheme. She also radiates Rainbow Dash energy with how defiant and steadfast that posing be.
