Rainbow Dash is Gallion’s gender non-conforming parent, who often comes off as a bully older sibling more than anything, but is loving regardless of their unusual shows of affection. They are the captain of the wonderbolts and the most talented flier in all of Equestria. Rainbow is still their old competitive awesome self, still 20% cooler than everyone else. They might come off as childish in their parenting style, but their heart is in the right place. They are really closed off about their previous marriage with Soarin and avoids talking about it and their other 2 kids due to the trauma they experienced during that time period.
 

 
Headcanon backstory:
 
Rainbow had a fairly happy childhood filled with support from their parents and many flying competition trophies. They were the first pony ever to do a sonic rainboom, which was just a theory until Rainbow got their cutie mark doing it.
 
When they were 14 they dated a colt. The relationship was toxic and even abusive at times, but during that time Rainbow realized and came out as bisexual, at first only to their best friend at the time, Fluttershy, who ran away several days after that. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash would eventually be reunited, but their best friend going missing without an explanation did cause a lot of pain.

-Rainbow and Gallion have a family book club every week where they argue over who has superior taste in literature.
 

 
-Rainbow Dash had always sort of struggled with their gender identity. At some point they thought they were trans male, but they didn’t feel like a stallion either. So, they pushed feelings of dysphoria aside. The birth of their first son, however, brought some of those feelings back to surface. Being pregnant made Rainbow feel extremely uncomfortable with their body. It made them feel overly-feminine, too much of a mare. After Tropical Flash was born Rainbow sort of started coming to terms with the fact they were non-binary so naturally they first came out to their husband at the time, Soarin, who in return treated them like a teenager going through a phase. So, Rainbow once again pushed those feelings aside until they had their affair with Gilda, who introduced them to genderfluidity in griffin culture and this made them accept themselves a little more.
 
After coming out their marriage with Soarin started to fall apart (also because they were having an affair and leading a second life behind their husband’s back, but ya know). Rainbow’s second pregnancy was the breaking point. When they found out they were pregnant they planned on aborting the baby, but Soarin stopped them. Soon after Stormy’s birth, Soarin caught Rainbow and Gilda in a rather um… intimate situation and he kicked both of them out of the house, going out to find his spouse several days later to ask for a divorce. The divorce was finalized and all parenting rights went to Soarin.

Due to this she was unable to fly as well as she used to, so she retired and handed over her position to Soarin. However, since Rainbow and Soarin’s marriage started falling apart, Soarin started being really harsh on his spouse and there was a lot of conflict that even the rest of the team picked up on. After the divorce things got even worse because now they’d have to see each other even after everything they’d been through. So, Spitfire was called and the rest of the team told her that they thought Soarin was an untrustworthy captain. Spitfire fired him with whatever little power she had left and made Rainbow Dash the new captain of the wonderbolts.
