This is right after he was banished. She was plagued by terrible nightmares, missed Sombra dearly and because of that she couldn’t focus on her studies. So in the depths of the night she busted out the good drink and drowned her sorrows while lamenting her friend until she passed out. Researching the Crystal Empire lead to her discovering of the existence of a prison under the Empire reserved for an infamous, sneaky and not well understood species of creature, so she set out on her adventure to uncover the truth about Sombra and reunite with her best friend.
 
Headcannon: Due to her beauty and status as possible princess, other stallions often gazed at her or tried to win her over with various tactics, so she donned that brown cloak as cover to avoid attention and to stay faithful to Sombra. That would be cute.
