The reveal of these new characters seems to be splitting the fandom already. And the fandom actually has been split many times. Twilight becoming alicorn and the announcement of Equestria Girls are probably the most famous examples. Fandom is a group of people and we can’t control everyone’s actions. The best we can do is enjoy things by ourselves and try not to be swayed by other opinions.
 
There will also be people who like both G4 and G5 and understand that a generational shift is only a natural step. Not everyone will want to split.

Yeah,i’m tracing an arbitrary line.It’s going to be a new gen with a different artstyle so as far as i’m concerned, i’m treating this as something completely different from G4

It wouldn’t be people getting angry about the franchise restarting from scratch since it’s not. It’s set in the same continuity. Fandom splits are just inevitable with transitions like this, especially since it’s a different group of writers.

This saddens me ,honestly.As i’ve said time and time again ,G4 lasted one full decade,that’s not nothing and MLP had a previous history of always changing directions roughly every decade(the Generations) so from my perspective , i dont see reason to get angry that the franchise restart from scratch.  
Especially there, so far i dont see anything wrong with those 3 characters

That implies there’s even anything left to split.

I fear that when the G5 arrives the fandom will split in two, between those who will remain on the side of the G4 and those who will take the side of the G5, a bit like what happened with the East – West Schism of the Roman Empire.
 
I admit I’m sorry because we used to be a good fandom…  
I hope that at least the fans of the G4 and G5 get along well instead of fighting like I’ve seen lately…
