Basic backstory:
 
As a filly Swift wasn’t big into flying. She walked everywhere and was reluctant to come off solid ground. Her father was a famous race pony and would always drag swift along to his races so she could watch. Swift was his only child and he wanted nothing more than to have a daughter who shared the same passion as him. However swift was not very close to her dad, and very uninterested in his races. She would always sneak off and play with a young colt named Soarin (yes the one from the show) they would play together and Soarin would tease her about how she would never fly. Swift eventually admitted she was scared of flying and going fast, but Soarin was determined to help her over come her fears. One night they snuck out together and Soarin held her hoof while he taught her to fly.  
She became stronger and more confident each night until one night she decided to fly the highest she had ever flown on her own before.  
She flew so high all she could see was stars and became mesmerized. It was this moment she received her Cutie Mark. Her and Soarin where overjoyed and they spend the rest of the night flying together and chasing shooting stars. Soon after her dad got promoted to another racing team in canterlot forcing her family to move away from cloudsdale and away from Soarin. Swift was devastated that she wouldn’t be able to see her best friend anymore but swore to never give up on flying for him.  
Once in canterlot swift would spend most days flying and doing different maneuvers in hope to improve her new skill. Her father noticed her agility and signed her up for the Wonderbolts academy when she was 18. She wasn’t the best or fastest flyer of the bunch but she was extremely agile and good at teamwork.  
One day a new bunch of ponies where introduced to the squad which is when she finally saw her childhood friend again! They practiced together and eventually qualified together, officially making them Wonderbolts. Swift and Soarin eventually became more than friends and to this day they are still performing together and swift is the happiest she’s ever been.
