Description

Home Sweet home

I already knew her to be a dedicated adventurer and a sophisticated entrepreneur of private expeditions. I suspected she must have had a funding as big as her appetite. Imagine my surprise when she told me that she represented no Museums, nor scholarly institutes. No academy’s or any organisation looking for a piece of valued history. She represented none but herself. And all of our acquisitions, Our gear and your paychecks, they came straight from her own pockets.

If i had wanted any proof of this, it presented itself when we came down for landing. The coordinates Mivera had provided for our sky-captain reached no towns or pony resorts. It took us out over the lush green woods, where in the middle of - a big, still lake lay resting, mirroring the sky above.

Our landing set us down some distance from everything. And then. after some hour of walking along the gravel path, the late summer green trees parted to reveal the great mansion.

It was a big, brownstone building. A great venerable house, rising opulent and imperial from its stoic perch atopp a small island. Gazing proudly out across the mirror-glossed lake, as the still waters reflected the purple haze of the evening sunsett.

I now learned why Mivera had been so secretive about our destination, as she giggled like a schoolgirl as we picked out yaws up from the ground.

It was an abode that put my little apartment, or any of the buildings of my home towns to shame. As the house rose like a sharp spire of architecture, its sharp edges cutting the senic landscape. Humbled only by its lonely location atop the small island that itself protrude out a bit into the lake, like a spire of solemn rock. Accessible only by a narrow walkway across a naturnally formed stone achway that bridged the gap between the spire and the outcropping cliff of the mainland.

An immodest shadow was cast over our aproach, as the sun settled behind the house. I can only imagine the view that such a sunsett must form on the patio facing the lake.

Such a sight must alone have justified the founding for whatever lord or baron that wished to catch the visage of nature for themselves, how many ever hundreds of years ago.

My dear Glyph shivered, seeming a bit nervous at the imposing structure. Having never seen anything like it in her life. Though its achitecture was anything but modest. Our dear friend - turned host - was, as she welcomed us home to her “humble” abode.

note:
I dipped my hands into some architectural design with this, and I’m really proud of the outcome. And I’m equally proud of the skyline behind it, something that I’d never really done before. I really helps to set the mood for this mansion, as it stands opulent and imperial from its stoic perch atop lake.
