Isn’t it called Edge now

Technically they are different. IE uses an API (Application Programming Interface) called ActiveX that never really caught on, and which M$ is abandoning along with IE.

This is going to cause great wailing and gnashing of teeth among people, mainly businesses, that use certain web-based software (there is a report generator, for example, created about ten years back, that’s still in fairly widespread use) that developers used ActiveX to write. It was bad enough when this web-based software used a raft of nonstandard IE settings, that the weekly M$ Windows update would rip out with a chainsaw and revert to default every time an end user clicked the Windoze Update “install” button and the software of course stopped working. When they kill IE and ActiveX completely, oh Jesus. A lot of IT departments are going to get a lot of enraged calls from the Assistant Vice President In Charge of the Department of Redundance Department, screaming obscenities and death threats because IE doesn’t work any more and the report thingy doesn’t work in Edge. No, Edge doesn’t support ActiveX, one of the reasons they are throwing away IE and moving to Edge is to make a clean break from legacy stuff like ActiveX. M$ has been telling the dev community since 2012 that they’re going to take ActiveX out behind the barn and shoot it Real Soon Now, and good riddance–it’s a train wreck and it causes no end of security problems. But there are companies out there still making money on licenses for decade-old software who don’t want to spend the money to throw it all away and re-write it from the ground up.

But I do not envy the calls IT people are going to get from people who aren’t going to want to hear that they should send Bill Gates an angry letter.

With many websites now work better on fire-fox along with google chrome and safari when internet explorer users are forced to download any of the three browsers listed above when on fire-fox and safari had users believe ads would be blocked without external blockers.

I use Firefox with userChrome.css to make it look like an old version of IE.
