My headcannon is that Equestria is a future version of a middle-age version of Earth, where humans disappeared due the dangers of the world. Only ponies could survive that hostile enviroment and become intelligent.

My head cannon is that earth and equistria are two entirely different worlds that can be accessed by space travel it’s just a lot easier to use portals one day long ago humans discovered equistria from a space craft and sent down pods containing both astronauts and human technology they quickly became friends but before Long they had to leave due to a crisis on earth but they left a secret portal in a sewer tunnel under canter lot as time went on ponies gained intelegence from humans and humans slowly became more acc ping of each other but they began to forget about the portal from an equestrian sewer to an earth fallout shelter but soon that will all.change

My headcanon is that the pony world used to interact with ours through a series of portals, but during one of those eras where people started to hunt all magical beings they pulled all of their people out of here, both dead and alive. the portals were then closed, but in recent times some of our technology has fallen through the cracks, as well as some people building psychic links to their world.

Not sure if this fits my headcanon but its better than “Humans are extinct”.
