Wayland is going to be an improvement due to it’s more streamlined, logical, design and its development in a more settled, experienced, ecosystem.
X11, while brilliant, is hampered by being from the 80s, where a lot of current technologies either wern’t a thing, in limited use, or on the drawing board.
Unfortunately NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD are taking their sweet sweet time with getting their drivers working with wayland. In the mean time open source drivers are light years behind. Thats how I understand it though, and I don’t know very much.
