Alicorn == mary sue is a fandom root assumption (which is an informal fallacy, BTW) thatI happen to disagree with. Too many people are making the incorrect assumption that what a character is defines more of said character than what they do.
Thus, I find myself agreeing with you
Not on this site, there ain’t!
You know what else bugs me? The notion that Lauren Faust’s pony-sona is the only valid fanon alicorn, and that many fans see an alicorn OC, see that it isn’t Pony!Faust, and immediatly label it “MARY SUE!” Granted, sometimes they are, but the term “Mary Sue” has always been relative.
What do you think?
I guess my biggest criticism lays with what tvtropes calls “Creator Worship.” People whom almost deify creative types like Faust seem to forget one crucial element:
They’re fallible humans, just like the rest of us.
And if Faust had stayed one, I’d guarantee you that we’d probably turn into the Mass Effect fandom (the ones whom liked the ending), in that pointing out valid criticisms would be met with derision, because as we know Faust can do no wrong!!!!
I hear ya. It was the same way with Cadence being an alicorn or the sisterly development between RD and Scootaloo. The Faust worshippers came out of the woodwork to say “OMG FAUST DIDNT WANT DAT!! HERETIX!! FIM ROOINED 4EVAH!!”
And seriously, all this alarmism is just ridiculous. I mean, what are we, the Transformers and Sonic fandoms?
Alicorn haters whom start with the sentence “But Lauren Faust said…” gets the same reaction from me as trekkies whom say that Gene Roddenberry was against Spock’s death in The Wrath of Khan
The pony fandom will become a supermassive black hole made of rage and shitstorms.
