Description

Bedtime Story and their little filly Pally.

Bedtime had always seemed to feel alone. Despite owning a thrift store and dealing with a good hooffull of customers a week and spending their free time writing, they felt unfulfilled and craving something more. They felt like their life until up to the point had been too steady and predictable. So they decided to have a baby.

They had no interest in a relationship, they just went to a clinic and picked the donor. Bedtime provided a general description of the father’s appearance and skill/talent, but they more or less chose randomly. Soon they tested positive and began eagerly awaiting their child, cleaning out a room that had used to be the library to make a nursery.

But within the fifth month while at work, they were suddenly crippled with pain. taken to the hospital, Bedtime was given the bad news. They had lost the baby, they had no idea why.

They tried to comfort Bedtime, and recommended to seek counsel. But they didn’t pay attention at that point, and simply asked to have the remains and bury it.

For a year, Bedtime tried to move on and accept what happened. But all that ground to a halt when they were told how it happened: Bed was incapable of carrying a child to term. This made them focus on their one and only child and if they could maybe give them a second chance. Living in a thrift store, a lot of things come off the shelves or stay there forever. Bed had found a few unique tomes a long time ago, and had kept them hidden.

Why? Necromancy is highly illegal and punishable by death. It is an affront to the nature cycle of life and cause nothing but narm, if you believe the rumors. Bedtime was willing to try anything at this point, and went through with the ritual. Despite having a small and weak horn, they thankfully didn’t need any for this kind of magic.

The result was Pally, a equunculus (homunculus) and she was everything Bedtime could ask for in a child. She was sweet and kind, always looking for attention or something to do. However, when is there never a catch? In exchange for the illusion of life, Bedtime had to sacrifice half of their life. Literally, they cannot physically move the right side of their body. Their right eye is completely gone (which is why it’s covered with their hair) and they can barely walk.

But this didn’t matter, they felt complete at last with someone to care for. And someone to be need them. Bedtime tried to remember that when they had to feed Pally. The equunculus requires one sacrifice, one life force once every couple months.

It doesn’t matter at all. Pally is so much more special than anypony else. Little did they know they were slowly slipping away…..
