@DJTHED
I’ll need to do a comparison on that, never thought of it much since everyone keeps spouting about the superiority of Eevee. Good stuff, thanks, will give it a look.
Doing another poster with the same models right now, I’ll try rendering it in both Eeevee and Cycles.
@Certedia
Well, through Compositing I’m sure a cycles render can match the general contrast and color levels as an Eevee render if the base render doesn’t already provide it. I have always viewed cycles as far superior when it comes to visual fidelity to Eevee since it always works as you’d expect… Or at least, a lot more so than Eevee, where you often have to cheat things (similar to SFM quite frankly, at least when it comes to generally finding ways to “fake” and effect when Cycles just does it automatically through physically accurate light bouncing). If there’s a look you aren’t getting through cycles, I’m sure there are ways to get it to the way you want it. Obviously render times are far, far, FAR longer on Cycles, especially with how my models are set up right now with the hair mesh layers. So I can see Eevee being a good alternative at least for much faster render times… eventually. Eevee needs anisotropic support first before I can really consider my models fully compatible with that renderer, and I’m not sure when or if ever that will come out for Blender.
@DJTHED
Yea the individual feathers seem to blend together a lot more easily under even a little direct lighting, especially if any volumetrics appear in front of the camera. In Eevee, that is. Despite that, wouldn’t Eevee be superior once scenery is added? I feel the lighting comes out much better around the scenery when I switch away from Cycles.
The main thing preventing Eevee from being a great rendering engine for my models is that it doesn’t support anisotropic shading. Essentially, that’s what is used to make the hair shading look a lot more convincing when rendered in cycles. Everything else should be okay, though the wings will probably appear a lot more flat than they would in Cycles.
@Josedx9
He has changed the models a lot over time, and likely used to render them in Cycles. Eevee is somewhat new, so the render itself might look different. That and he’s just better.
@Certedia
Oh that artist; I already said that I knew the model from somewhere, it looks slightly different in your image compared to those of the original artist
I realized that there is a tag that serves to identify the use of this artist’s models, someone already put it in your image “model:djthed”
And yes, I’ve always said that artists like you do miracles with the SFM
https://derpibooru.org/tags/artist-colon-therealdjthed
Found his tag, guess it was different than I thought.
Yea my biggest issue with SFM is the limitations their outdated software brings, I will most likely move over to Blender entirely in the near future.
@Certedia
Yes, I looked for it exactly as “artist:DJtheD” but it doesn’t show me any results
And that’s great, I hope they look better than the models in sfm since they really aren’t much to my liking
What would be the name of the artist who created the model in derpibooru? I tried to search as “DJtheD” but I didn’t find results
and the image you made is beautiful … I wonder what you would be planning to do with the model judging by your previous work lol

Did you search for “artist:DJtheD” or just DJtheD? I have not seen him go by any other alias.
Also thanks uwu and yes I will lewd it.

These models alone made me install Blender.
Unsurprising; SFM hasn’t been updated for years.
