I know this was posted four years ago, but has anyone ever heard about interpretations? It’s really not canon. However, it’s only up to the interpretations to believe what’s official and what isn’t. Shippers and non-shippers are allowed to have their own thoughts or opinions or interpretations. This shipping has already been controversial enough. Non-shippers, please let the shippers enjoy what they enjoy and don’t be a jerk to their happiness and what they like or adore. And to also the people who ship these characters, you’re very welcome to ship them or any characters. But please don’t be a jerk to anyone for your own shipping as well.

I’m still a little disapointed that i misunderstood the intent of the cartoon yet again. I genuinely thought they were trying to hint at a ship there. I’m not even mad,i’m more like “really ? Oh man…”

Let me just say, people are TOTALLY free to believe what they want to believe and ship who they want to ship buuuut… I totally agree with Big Jim as usual, they still make good friends though.

He said he personally doesn’t ship them, that doesn’t mean it’s not Canon.

the only thing i consider canon is what happens in the show itself and equestria girls. everything else is speculative like the comics and books, or not well thought out and only there just as flavour text like tags on toys.

I don’t know why people even need confirmation. In my eyes, since alternate timelines and worlds are canon, anything that could have happened, did happen. I mean the amount of contradicting material Hasbro has made is monumental if you include comics, toys, books, etc; if they can’t decide what is canon, why should we bother arguing?

Sure, but people who want that to be the case can still have a headcanon that it is without actually contradicting anything onscreen; that’s what Jim is desperately trying to tell people when he says over and over again that it’s all up to fans’ individual interpretation.
 
Stuff like that is why all of this barking about canon relationships is so unnecessary; you can basically come up with justification for anything if you spin canon hard enough. People are only yelling about it because shippers and anti-shippers have such a strong tendency to be horrible people who can’t accept that anyone else in the world refuses to worship/hate the same ships they do.

Yup. Until Josh Haber, Dubuc or McCarthy say it’s not canon, then only the show applies. And the show mostly suggest its canon. Same with CheesePie. There are slight door open to interpret Pinkie as a baby sitter of Lil Cheese or his Aunt which would make CheesePie platonic. If people say CheesePie is canon then Discoshy should be regarded as much canon as that ship.

i usually just listen to what the writers have to say instead. jim does a lot of handwaving and leaving it up to interpretation, probably to avoid being hounded by obsessed bronies.

For some reason people rely on what big jim says even tho he legit changes nothing about the show. The same guy who says lyra and bon bon were just platonic friends. I laugh at people who rely on what he says. Hes legit changed nothing about the show. Also it isn’t just shippers who thought they got together. Josh haber said yes, so good enough for me.

That is exactly the opposite of what it means. Canon is what happens onscreen or on the page, it has absolutely nothing to do with fan interpretation, because fan interpretation is headcanon. What Jim is saying, and what he’s been saying all along, is that anyone watching is free to make up their own headcanon about what they see, and it’s just as valid as anyone else’s headcanon.
 
He’s tellin’ everyone to chill the fuck out and stop screaming about a goddamn cartoon for small children because you can take it however you want, he’s just being way more polite about because he’s Canadian and they have standards for that sort of thing.
