I’ll just skip your first point, since it’s a moot point that missed mine anyway.

But I’ll point this out: THE ENTIRE EPISODE WAS WILDLY OUT OF CHARACTER FOR HIM!

There was never any hints, never any signs or even the slightest tease of him being anything but the incarnation of all evil in Equestria prior to this. That ‘Oh, no one ever loved me’ bullshit is just that: Bullshit! This episode was nothing but mindless pandering to the base; and, while I am normally all for shout outs and showings of love from the studio to the bronies, this whole episode was one giant ‘Fuck you’ to those of us that like something called continuity and made me consider quitting this fandom because of idiots like you who WANTED THIS!

Discord is, and always was, evil; he tortures for fun, rapes the minds of ponies because it’s one giant joke to him. There is nothing sympathetic or likeable about him; there never has been, there never WILL be, and to so much as hint at there is even anything capable of feeling regret flies right in the face of canon. It’d be like Applejack saying she hates farming, or Twilight saying she hates books; it just doesn’t work!

And the lesson that they taught, that sometimes people can change, is one they ALREADY COVERED! The Trixie episode was a much better example, because she had the excuse of being affected by something that messed her up mentally for all her out of character moments and, by the end, she was still herself but was willing to make up for all that she had done. This entire episode was completely and utterly POINTLESS and was better off left on the drawing room floor!

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@SaintAbsol

One is a moot point so,

Two: Having a an irredeemible/redeemible bad guy doesn’t mean anything for quality. They can be awful or great either way, but thinking that villains are somehow “better” because they can’t show signs of changing their sides is ridiculous.

Three: If you happened to pay attention instead of absent-mindedly keeping a personal headcanon of Discord’s character close at hand, it’s far from vague (he even outright explained it), and his turnaround had early signs that wasn’t that hard to spot.

And don’t give me this “Grand Scheme of Things”, especially when continuous storylines are a secondary or even tertiary concern in the Grand Scheme of FiM.

But if I had to think about that too, then this also brings closure to the questionable status of the imprisoned but always present threat of the Master of Chaos, while givinv him a later opportunity to return that doesn’t simply involve being the bad guy again.

I’d say that works just fine.

One: I will admit that I enjoy Dark and Edgy fics from time to time, but that is not the only thing I read.

Two: A setting does not need to be grimdark to have an irredeemable villain. Up until this episode, this show was a perfect example of that.

Three: The whole reason for this Heel Face Turn was a completely vague cop out that will likely come to nothing in the grand scheme of things and the episode wasn’t even well done enough to make it work.

Oh yes, it’s such a good act you’re putting on; I’m not fooled. You may fool everyone else, but I know that there’s nothing in that hard but blackness and evil. I’m not stupid enough to buy this whole ‘redemption’ facade you’ve put up.

Friendship, Art, and Magic (2019) - Celebrated Derpibooru's seventh year anniversary with friends

I didn’t hated the episode, but I felt they redeemned Discord too fast. I’m not one against the episode, twas great, but I felt it was sudden.
