As for the expanded universe, I’m pretty sure you are referring to the Peter David novel Q-Squared, where Trelane briefly becomes more powerful than the entire Q continuum and almost destroys the multiverse. Also, in addition to being his teacher, Q is implied to be Trelane’s father.
And Grandpear’s coat color is exactly like Captain Kirk’s TOS uniform.
This is true. Ah there was a very Q like character in TOS (The original series) named Trelane who was a hell of a lot like Q. Matter of fact, I believe an expanded Universe book said Q was Trelane’s teacher or something.
And how we know Discord was voiced by John de Lancie who also played Q in Star Trek the next gen, Voyager and DS9. Who was practically a “Human form” version of Discord and was the inspiration for Discord.

OR they might be making a joke about how grandpear was voiced by William Shatner who played captain James.T.Kirk in the original star trek series

Yeah this was great! They had to do it at some point. And this isn’t even the only scene that it happens in either. Also there is a very small bit of the TOS theme at one point as well.
