I never really flirted with any girls, because of things like that. Plus, I’m kinda shy.
We-ell… to be fair, I had flirted with several pretty young things in a very clumsy and, in retrospect, cringy fashion. Some of that beatdown I deserved.
It kinda varries actually, I’ve seen “less attractive,” (not necessarily “ugly”) people with better looking partners before. Some care more about personality then looks, so not everyone who is “decent” or “good” looking is that shallow.
Some have different standards of beauty.

Well, beauty fades, so in a decade, or so, those two will probably get much less attractive. And jerks like that usually don’t have long relationships.

Seriously though, all other things being equal (I.e., an ugly guy or gal with a boatload of money) attractive people are drawn to each other, not to the unattractive. That’s not a judgement, that’s just a statement of fact.
Hey, I learned that lesson back in high school.
Very Pretty Girl displays interest in me, asks to meet somewhere private after school for ‘something special’ – which turned out to be her jock boyfriend smacking me around to show her how much he loved her, with Miss Very Pretty Girl cheering him on. Ah, those golden school days!
