Description

Commissioner’s vision of Celestia and Luna’s father, King Solaris. They even provided a story!

“That is the duty of the king to listen to his subjects, no matter how much they complain.” Osiris explained as he continued to walk down the hall, leaving the earth pony king flustered and annoyed. Before he turned the corner, Osiris cast his gaze back at the king and called out once more.
“By the way, my sister wishes to have an audience with you. She seems a bit agitated over something… so tread lightly.” he said. Osiris turned the corner and left King Solaris and his escort, a sense of dread present on his face. King Solaris sighed deeply and began to imagine the conversation with that mare.
“Hard to believe that he’s my brother in law.” King Solaris said, almost sounding in defeat. Chancellor Puddinghead, who was distracted by the new findings, came out of his happy stupor and turned to his king.
“Well you did beat him in the duel, my king.”
“Yes, but he tricked me into marrying his sister, one who doesn’t share much love for me. If I had known what his bet was in the first place I would not have taken up that offer and fighting him.” Solaris took a breath, then started out of a large stain-glass window, overlooking the city of Canterlot. The next words he said were filled with uncertainty and dread, all the while his chancellor and guards remained silent and listened.
“We have been married for neigh half a year, almost the length of my reign, and she looks at me with such contempt when we were first married. How Osiris was able to convince her to marry me I cannot fathom, but I guess this is only political. Even further still, is that I am trying my best to make her like me when she still feels that she has been wronged. And worse still, I fear her rejections of me would affect badly on all of the tribes.” he closed his eyes and breathed heavily from what he said next,
“How am I to change this nation for the better without losing sight our goals and traditions? How am I to unite the tribes on a great compromise and solidify our people without driving wedges into other factions? Am I just a terrible leader for this nation or am I just a bad husband to a mare I was betrothed to?” King Solaris sighed as he lowered his head, and only imagine the number of times he tried to treat her with kindness and affection, only to be turned away and be rejected of her love.
“But my king,” Chancellor Puddinghead interjected, “your queen, she is much loved by the nobles and civility, even among all the tribes. Your marriage to her is what made this country strong. I’m certain that the two of you can overcome your differences. Sometimes miracles can happen overnight.”
“But that’s just it Puddinghead. It’s the only thing that is keeping this unification alive.’ King Solaris lamented as he turned to his chancellor, “The Solar and Lunar council and the Unicorns are needed in helping moving the sun and moon, giving life to the soil for us to grow the food. The Pegasus respect strength and they are needed in the defense of this nation,” he nodded to Commander Hurricane who returned the gesture, “Without their support then everypony would be back to the old ways, before the unification.” he turned back to the chancellor, who could only give a small smile.
“What I saw that day only strengthens my resolve for a better tomorrow. I know for a fact that we can get passed this ordeal and that true peace can exist between our tribes.” he said with confidence as he placed a hoof on King Solaris shoulder.
“For some you may not be the leader they want, but to me, my friend, you are the king we need for this nation. A king for Equestria, one that will be loved for the deeds you do and not for title or rank. You’ll see.”
If we can get past our pride that is. Solaris thought as he let the chancellor’s word remain.
As he remained still Chancellor Puddinghead, noticing the silence from his king, quickly motioned his guards and began heading down the halls. “I’ll begin working right away with the new plans for the homes and fields, I’m sure we can get enough of a harvest for the new refugees.” he called out as he left them where they were. King Solaris sighed once again, his body very tired from the day’s events. Before he could say anything to commander Hurricane, a soldier skidded across the hallway, passing by Chancellor Puddinghead’s escort, and quickly coming to a halt in front of King Solaris. King Solaris took notice of the light blue pegasus in his traditional armor and it was Lieutenant Pansy, one of the other founders of this nation.
“My king, a brawl has started between pegasus and earth ponies at one of the the taverns in the center market. The town guard are trying to handle the situation but it’s turning ugly.”
Great. Another brawl from hotheaded fools. This makes the fifth this month alone. Solaris thought as he turned his attention to Commander Hurricane.
“I’ll trust you can handle the situation?”
“Yes my king, we’ll put the rabble in their place.” Commander Hurricane said as he and his guard readied to leave for the incident.
“Hurricane,” King Solaris spoke again, his voice a bit softer than before. The pegasus turned and noticed king Solaris motioning forward. He leaned further until he heard his king whisper into his ear. He listened intently, his expression turned one from seriousness to slight surprise, allowing every word to sink in. After a moment the commander nodded and backed away.
“You promise that you will fulfill this task?” Solaris asked, and seeing the pegasus leader place a hoof over his heart.
“I will see that it is done.” he said as he left with his guards and leaving the king in the middle of the hallway. As the seconds ticked by, and not a sound came from anypony he slowly made his way towards his chambers. As he walked he passed by an open window and he turned his gaze toward the city, a city where everypony was supposed to live in peace. A calm breeze passed by and it was cool to his fur. The late summer of August has come and gone, Autumn was already here.
He breathed out again and turned toward his destination while mumbling under his breath.
“Alright then Selena. What is it that got you riled this time.”
