@PoemeMystique
but I don’t see what’s right-wing about MLP,

There’s no democratic/republican governments, the money is specie instead of fiat, most of the communities and nations are very much homogenous to the point of often being named after the majority demographic, and there us a sense of community identity without egalitarian opposition to individuals rising based on their skill and wisdom. Also, a lot of respect for family and tradition. One could point out that many writers of the show are feminists and the like, but (at least in the Faust era) they were more concerned with making a high-quality, wholesome show than making propoganda for their personal views.

This is basically my attitude as well. I hope you haven’t mistaken me for a social justice warrior or intersectional critical theorist!

There are examples of bad or misguided individuals doing great harm in MLP, but that’s just realism, I would say. The underlying ethical assumptions of the show are still individualist, traditionalist and communitarian. Quite apart from the fact that Equestria is a monarchy with a do-nothing government.

I know I said let’s not debate it so I should stick to that. You may have the last word if you wish.

Cool Crow - "Caw!" An awesome tagger

@PoemeMystique
I can however see the fallacy that makes people believe that the show must be right-wing for opposing the extremist egalitarian ideology defended by Starlight Glimmer (which, admittedly, can be likened to left-wing values), while ignoring the gallery of other villains that have also been defeated, including selfish, autocratic tyrants such as Nightmare Moon, King Sombra, Queen Chrysalis, or even Trixie (remember those very fascist-looking banners that were hanging in the town square when she styled herself as dictator of Ponyville?), or greedy entrepreneurs like the Flim-Flam brothers or Gladmane, all of which could themselves be viewed at right-wing.

As someone in the politics thread pointed out, everything involves politics in some way or another and it has always been this way. Honestly, it’s those who pick apart every recent cultural work they can get their hands on in search of any faint trace of possible politicization to complain about that ought to shut it.

@Ereiam
I wouldn’t call you dumb, but did you see the one about Starlight Glimmer building a communist ‘utopia’? She wasn’t the good guy (not then, anyway!). Still, let’s not debate it. There is altogether too much politicisation of children’s entertainment already - and talking about politics never did anyone any good.

Nice cover. That’s the van Dyck portrait of Charles I - my favourite king. I wonder what he’s doing there. Or is the horse the focus?

@Ereiam

MLP is a pretty right-wing show, so it’s not surprising.
