Description
Formerly a member of the Royal Guards in the ancient years of Equestria. Greatshield once dutifully carried out his service to guard the Princess and defend Equestria in times of conflict. He always strived to join the most decorated high ranking members of the guard, however during one battle his fate would be change forever.
He mysteriously disappeared in the battlefield and was thought to have been killed in battle and given up for dead. Last seen falling of a cliff and into the ocean. The reality was that he fell through a dimensional rift and emerged on the other side in the human world in the early 1920’s. In the human world, he tried several time to find a way back to Equestria while at the same time experiencing both the glamour and glitz of the roaring 20’s (experiencing his first drink of alcohol) and suffering and pain of the Great Depression in the 1930’s. Having eventually given up on trying to find a way back and accepting his fate, he set out to find his place in this new world. Taking on the guise of a private investigator in 1928 and had taken up residence in a small flat near downtown. The very same flat that would be occupied by Sunset Shimmer decades into the future. These days, he’s known as Detective Greatshield.
His old Helmet is on Display in his office and from time to time he would reminisce about his old life in Equestria, much to the confusion of his clients, who would sometimes be present during these times of remembering.

and also Ocs living in a different time period too i suppose since i dont really think i have ever seen an oc written as a character living in a different era of human history
though for I, I’d make the present day story completely unrelated tot he noir story and the mood of both storylines dissonant to each other. like you get your usual EqG story in the present but in the 1930’s storyline, you get this gritty noir style historical urban fantasy.
Oh I love that kind of storytelling. Like in the 1990 movie adaptation of It, where it alternated between the main heroes as kids in 1958 first encountering Pennywise and defeating him once, and the then-present day (1988) where they’ve grown up and have to battle It again and remember clues from the past.
And also for ones not living in the same time period as the Humane 7.
I can envision a fanfic that involves two separate storylines and switches between time periods. One would be a modern day storyline involving the humane 7 and others and the ther other storyline is the noir storyline set in the 1930’s. Both would involve travel to the same locations but decades apart. like alternating between storylines via time skip. like the mane 7 hanging out in a diner in the present, while it timeskips to Greatshield talking with another character in the same location but back in the 1930’s. The diner either being a bar/speakeasy/different business or not existing at all.
like some odd constants and variables thing. Where sunset is unknowingly going to the same locations int he present day that greatshield goes to int he 1930’s. Imagine sunset in her apartment and the scene switches to Greatshield in the same apartment, which was back in the 1930’s his office and with a different interior layout,
I’m also a sucker for Equestria Girls OCs who aren’t just cutesy teens, because they show there is more depth and adventure to the human world than just Canterlot High.
I am very intrigued to see the humane seven’s adventures in your fanfic ’verse.
