The first individual artwork of my take on the children of the Mane Six.
Here we have Rainbow Dash and her son Tempest. RD is older, of course, so her hairstyle has been altered as is the hair of all the pictures of the Mane Six and their kids.
Like the rest of my fan children, Tempest’s design was based on his mother alone. He does have a father but who that dad is remains unknown. I chose to keep it a mystery and to avoid shipping wars (to the best of my ability).
YES….this is shipping neutral. No, Tempest’s design is not based off Soarin’s. I wanted Tempest to be blue but dark blue was too dark, so I made him lighter. I didn’t want him to be an RD clone, so I avoided a rainbow mane (but kept the spectrum look). Yes, he wants to be a Wonderbolt like his mom wanted to be. That’s not shipping evidence.
All I wanted was to make a kid for RD and the rest of the Mane Six. There will always be opinions and theories, but the point of my art and fanfic is to focus on the children without obsessing over shipping.

But back to Soarin, if he does return, I’d like to see him as a more serious character. He was a bit of a goof at the Gala. I’d like for him to keep some of it as his charm but not be the “stupid” member of the team.
And maybe Hasbro does have something planned for him but are hesitant to hint at any fan-ship. After all, Hearts and Hooves day is proof that they pay attention and are okay with trolling the shippers. Haha

I’m sad he didn’t appear in Wonderbolts Academy. That still freaking bugs me. It’s like they introduced the character in Season 1 and threw him away like trash because he’s a male. I bet the writers don’t even know he exists because AKR was the one that named him and she left.
My biggest issue with shipping is the lack of development that it entails. It seems to always boil down to tomboy = lesbian and/or seen together = in a relationship. It just comes off as shallow and stereotypical pairing to me, but that’s just my own opinion. If given actual development, I’d support Soarindash because at least they would make the most sense as a couple.
But I’m with you….I’d like to see him get a speaking role again. I liked seeing him and Spitfire be the voices of the Bolts. He needs to be a character again and not a background space-filler.
Anyway, the problem with it is that Soarin hasn’t had the chance to grow beyond his first appearance. I don’t even see him making more appearances because Spitfire pretty much THE Wonderbolt now. I think they’re fading Soarin’ out because he doesn’t seem to be making appearances beyond the Canterlot Wedding photo. It would be nice to see development out of him… but whatever.
I honestly don’t buy the whole RD-Soarin’ ship. I mean, it makes more sense than 99% of RD ships, but it’s…okay.
I wanted Tempest to be darker than his mom, but it didn’t work out, so I made him lighter. The blue mane was chosen because nearly all RD fan kids have rainbow manes, so I wanted to do something different.
If people want to say he’s the dad, then fine, but I have no opinion of my own. He was based off of RD and RD alone.

Ain’t that the truth! If I had a nickel for every “who’s the dad?” question…..ah well. Still worth trying in the hopes that some people might read the disclaimer and accept it. Some.
