Description

Note. As I said in the previous post, the art for this was actually drawn a few years ago as quick notes after having the dream. The style is different from my current which more accurately portrays how ponies appear in my Equestria dreamscape.

“Get out of my dream ya vermin!” Screamed Applebloom as she threw herself at the mimic in my Equestria dreamscape. The earth pony came hurtling out of burning barn and brought the scythe down in a great downward swing. Not the best way to use it but she still succeeded it loping off one of the mimic/queen crabapple’s right legs.

The mimic screamed more out of confusion than true pain. It did not possess a physical body in the normal sense of the word, but anyone or thing that could destroy or damage its current form was a source of great distress to it. Spinning clockwise it swung its great right claw downward to pin this annoying little pony to the ground. Then it would teach it to fear it so it could feed on it to!

Applebloom did not attempt to dodge the descending claw. This was her dream and she was calling the shots damn it! Planting her rear hoofs firmly on the ground she reared up and blocked the great claw with the shaft of the scythe. Against the crushing mass of the claw the filly held her ground. What evolved was a test of mental strength between the two contestants; the mimic’s attempt to dominate Applebloom’s control of this dream and the filly’s resolve to drive it out her dream fabric once and for all.

With the giant crabapple no longer chasing them, Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo stopped and stared in wonder at the battle unfolding before them. The barn and farmhouse were now a raging inferno. Reddish firelight illuminated the crabapple and their best friends. In what appeared to be a lopsided battle their friend was standing her ground. The crabapple continued it’s attempts to crush and pin Applebloom under its right claw and Applebloom refused to yield. Then slowly but surely it became apparent to them that their friend was winning. A yellow-greenish glow began to grow beneath Applebloom’s rear hoofs, with every second the glow increased in intensity.

“Ya, will, not, dominate me!” Growled the filly through clenched teeth. “Ya will, not harm, my friends! YER GOING DOWN!”

Suddenly Applebloom violently pivoted to the right. The mimic was unable to compensate for this new development. To its surprise it suddenly found itself sailing through the air. It crashed against the outside of the burning farmhouse. Before it could regain its composure Applebloom finished the fight.

Still reared back on rear hoofs Applebloom delivered the final blow. Once again she saw the vision of Luna wielding the moon sickle in her mind. The little filly swung her scythe across in great slashing arc. A great shaft of yellow-green light burst from the scythe’s edge, it slammed into the mimic. Then the entire barnyard vanished in a giant flash and a thunderous explosion.

When Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell’s vision returned, the giant monster had vanished. Applebloom stood for several seconds more on her rear hoofs; eventually she seem to understand that she’d won. Slowly she tossed the scythe away; it spun through the air a couple times and then disintegrated into Applebloom’s dream fabric. The earth pony dropped to all four hoofs and surveyed wreckage of her iconic dream state.

The giant burst of energy had not only conquered the mimic it had utterly leveled Sweet Apple Acres. The blast had collapsed most of the building reducing it to an enormous roaring bonfire. Applebloom launched herself into air and flew around it once, surveying the devastation.

Yep, it was a write off. She thought. Oh, well I’ll just have ta rebuild it again. She then spotted her two friends standing on the ground. Slowly she flew down to them.

Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell backed up a several steps as Applebloom landed in front of them. The littlest of the Apple family could tell that her friends were very uncomfortable about what they’d observed. She looked at the ground scuffed her right front hoof a couple times in the dirt.

“Girls, I’m a sorry that this went poorly fer ya’ll. I meant ta show ya creepy but fun ghost story but not this. What attacked us was not part of the story I was trying ta tell. Instead it was nasty critter called a mimic. They live in the dream realm and they feed off the fear pony generate when they have nightmares. Apparently one snuck into my dream fabric tonight when went git ya’ll.

Sweetie Bell spoke first in a small voice. “Applebloom, are you okay? You weren’t hurt by that horrible thing were you?”

“Nah.” Replied earth pony. “Compared ta some of the nightmares I’ve had since coming back from the Kingdom of Shadows this was nothing.

“You’ve, had nightmares scarier than this?” Asked Scootaloo in a stunned voice. Applebloom nodded her head.

“Yeah.” She said softly. “I’ve had far worse than this.”

For several seconds nopony said a word. Sweetie Bell walked over to Applebloom and then silently stood there for several seconds looking into her friend’s eyes. Then she reached out hugged her friend. Softly she whispered in her friend’s ear.

“I’m sorry. Please forgive me. If I’d know how badly you we’re suffering I would have…” The little unicorn started to cry softly.

Applebloom returned her friend’s hug and gently stroked her mane. “It’s okay Sweetie. I don’t blame either of ya. Ta be blunt there was nothing ya could’ve done, in fact if ya tried too hard things might have turned out far worst. Remember what happened when Scoot tried ta git some answers out of me?”
Rumors of conflict both near and faraway. by Baron-Engel

After a couple minutes Applebloom gently pushed her friend away and looked her in the eyes. “But because I have friends and family like ya’ll and a princess as amazing as Luna training me that I’m as strong as I am now.”

Applebloom thought for a moment. “However I’d really appreciated if ya’ll wouldn’t say anything about what happened tonight ta anypony. Especially ta Princess Luna I’m not sure I want her immediately finding out what happened this evening.”

Behind Applebloom a new voice entered the conversation.

“Find out what?” Applebloom immediately recognize the familiar regal voice, and from her friends horrified reaction she knew exactly who was standing behind her.

“Horse apples.” Muttered the little filly.

To be continued.
