Just FYI, though, when I wrote that, I was thinking more of what we’ve seen of Applejack and Rarity in Equestria Girl’s latest special, rather than what we saw in this special alone. Just so you know.

No offense, but I think you may be reading too much into this. I mean, two friends hugging each other at the end of a holiday special where (much like the series it comes from) there is a particular focus on the importance of friendship doesn’t exactly require any sort of romantic involvement. And honestly, them looking at each other this way strikes me as more a matter of convenient pausing than some hidden message about what their relationship with each other is.

Nah, for something offers us a romantic moment with Rarity and Spike, in which case they would not have put it, if we talk about couples so we already have the aunts of Scootaloo, the rest is cheap and unnecessary fanservice that never should have put ..

The way I see it, the animators and writers behind it clearly intend to present it as romantically as they can get away with without alarming “the censors”. It’s called Subtext and Queer Coding, and it’s the same the show does with Lyra and Bon-Bon.
 
Mind you, I’d also love for them to outright be explicit with it, but we gotta take what we can get. Who knows, though, maybe by the series’ ending, they’ll go “Fuck it, we’re ending the show, so let’s do it!” like Adventure Time did and actually canonize the LGBT characters beyond any logical questioning.
